98 ranger 5.0 swap

I am less that impressed with this swap over all. I should have done my homework and taken my time on it.

I did some looking on another forum and found what belt I needed to ditch the a/c

The idler pulley is not needed with this belt you have ?

Also, how are you not impressed, power, ease of install, wiring ?
I will be doing something along this lines soon enough and was just wondering.
You said time and homework but did it go together ok?

Nope. I just run a shorter belt and bypass it. Its harder to explain until you see it

I am not impressed cause I got a junk yard motor and its nickel and diming me to death. But the 3.0 that was in it was doing the same thing so I guess I am just not happy at the moment. The power is great, the install is just as easy as a factory engine and the wiring is just as simple. I just expected it to work first go around and not have to play this game

OK on the 5 and 10 thing.
I will be attempting a new motor/manual trans/transfer case and hoping to get it right the first time. At least I will be simplifying my wiring some, so I hope that help some too.
My ’88 STX with a’93 5.0L auto was decent but I always wanted more power.

Good Luck in getting thing squared away.

Its really not a bad swap, and to be honest its tough to mess up as far as stuff bolts in. The wiring is a hair worse for you being an 03. But the manual trans/transfer case will hurt that a bit. Unless you run a custom tune your computer will be in limp mode cause it doesnt sense a transmission there

Thanks for the info.
I hope to start the swap soon but I have said that on a number of projects.

No problem, If you got any other questions let me know. Ive done enough swapping around of stuff on my ranger I am pretty familiar on how it works

So I finally did the 4406 manual t case swap, found out if you get the rear driveshaft off of a regular cab short bed F150 with the 4406 manual case that that shaft will fit our rangers? I never read this before anywhere but for giggles I tried it. Darn thing fits in there pretty well. I have stock suspension and it actually could be an inch shorter but I cycled my suspension and its not hitting or falling out. I am going to keep an eye on it but it was a nice surprise

Searching for something else on here I forgot about this thread. Traded the ranger off last september for this

did a decent amount of work and here it is now

and the engine that is about to be dropped into it
