What do you think I should do?

Alright, so as most of you know I was seriously considering selling my truck for an older one. I did find a few that I liked, but nothing really grabbed my attention. So I'm looking for thoughts, as I am starting to sway back towards keeping it. Should it stay or should it go? I have put about 6 grand into the truck in 8 months, NOT including what I paid for it. So what do my friends here think I should do? It does need some minor repairs at the moment, such as a park pin, fender flare, and a couple interior fixes that I can do. Should I sell it, take the money, and buy a clean, stock truck? Or should I keep mine and dump as much money as it takes to fix (which could be another grand or 10 grand)? unsure:

Personally I think you should stop worrying about what WE think here and stop posting multiple threads about this same topic. Do what you need to do to make YOU happy, not us. If you want to sell it, SELL IT. If not, dont. You've posted over 8 threads in the past WEEK on this topic. Now, if you still want opinions, which by all means you're entitled to, PLEASE update one single thread instead of starting another one.

 

keep it, you knowwhat you have , if you just want a change , rent a truck for a day or a car like a good gas sipping PRIUS like mine!!

 

Considering half of them swayed way off topic, things get lost. And I am completely torn between the two right now, and wanna know what everybody else thinks. Those other threads have been about new trucks that I found...well, a few of them at least.

This X2. Automobiles are a love hate thing, just like women. Eventually your gonna run out of **** to replace. My Truck ran like hell for a long time, left me stranded on main street in Wilkes-Barre a block away from Autozone for 4 hours, broke down at a Wawa in Reading on the way to a Rob Zombie concert. I hated it for a long time but I wouldn't get rid of it because I love it and I've put alot of heart into it. Now I'm trying to buy something else (I have my eye on a 03' Base $exy Mustang in black) so i can lift my truck, por-15 the underside, and figure out why my engine runs lean. Maybe you should just get a back up set of wheels like myself. Focus's are good cars and are great on gas, gas is only going to get more and more expensive so why not.

I love my extra set of wheels (2wd ranger). Gets a lot better gas mileage and doesnt wear my $1200 tires out so fast

 

That's what I've been told. But the only backup vehicle I have is the Dakota, which my dad takes to work every day. If I sell mine, maybe I'll just buy the Dakota fully off him.

 

I thought about a 2wd ranger or even an explorer but i want a new interior to look at and not the same thing haha.

If the other guy doesn't take it I think I probably will. (as long as everything checks out ok)
Sounds like he REALLY wants it. And yeah, there is another guy that said he was gonna come look at it, although I doubt it because he didn't seem too interested.

 

Alright, almost set on selling it. Gonna be hard to part with, but if the truck I'm looking at isn't there, then it's staying. That's settled. Mod, admin, all the threads about selling my truck can be closed/deleted. Thank you

$6,000 in 8 months!?!?!?? ON WHAT!?!?!? I've probably got that much into mine in general maint and fixings over the 8 years of ownership...INCLUDING an engine and two transmissions...

You don't have to answer unless you don't want to.... how much do you owe on the truck? How much did you buy it for? Haven't had it a year and dumped that much coin into it already is really really hard for me to believe.




I think what may be the problem is you expect too much from a truck with half it's life already gone. You may be expecting two year old, 30k miles reliability from it. Also known as: maint free minus oil changes. Plain and simple: It's not that. It does suck when they get to a certain point where you're tossing a couple hundred at it every couple of months just to keep it running (or in your case, a couple grand every couple months?!?!?), but you might be playing catch up with negligent previous owners. I've had those before. It's actually how I got into my Ranger...my previous truck was beat and abused by previous owners.

If you've got the title, keep it. It's sooooooo much better to drop a little here and there to keep her going than it is to dump money on a monthly payment. Selling and getting something older won't really accomplish anything...you might be picking up someones even older, grosser negligence. Plus, your truck is new enough to not feel ooooold and from the 80's or early 90's. No offence to any Gen2 or even Gen3 owners out there, I dislike something nearly 20 years old. If it's my toy, I don't care...but if it's my daily, I do care. $300 a month for almost 3 years sucked! I could afford to buy my $34,000 2012 Ecoboost F150, but I just can't bring myself to do it. I enjoy owning my truck outright! lol.

Redneck_Ranger, we know your head is probably going nuts on this type of decision and option looking. I've been in similar situations. But try not to think out loud on ze forumz. It does annoy. Quality of help decreases when bombarded. lol.

 

This... I paid $2800 for the truck. Kid drove it down to Florida fifteen times a year because of school, and most of the time with fully loaded motocross trailers because he rode. Beat the balls out of it in the woods, drove the hell out of it on the road. I was looking for a "fixer upper", and saw this and jumped on it. But I bit off more than I can chew and got in real deep over my head quick. And yeah, I totaled it up now, and it's just shy of 6 grand and I will own the truck 9 months on March 19th. But I KBB'd it yesterday, and saw that it's still worth $7285 in it's present condition (or somewhere around there.)

 

Yeah...if I found something like that stockish for that price, I would pounce on it too! I'd address the issues and flip it!

What did you spend almost 6k on?

 

New front differential, three sets of hubs, thermostat housing and waterpump, had brake problems for three months and that racked up about a thousand dollars in parts and expenses, CV axles small minor things, and the rest in mods

 

just dont beat your new truck like you do this one...i know you do dude...i saw how you drove it at the meet lol

 

That's in a parking lot haha. I don't drive like that constantly. lol
