Truck runs cold. What type of coolant fan to use?

    Hi all! My name is JJ, and I'm new to the forum. I have a 2000 Mazda B2500. The truck runs cool. Temp guage will slowly make its way up to operating temperature, but if I drive on the highway the increased airflow will cool it back down and the gauge goes back down to "C".

    I noticed that the coolant fan runs regardless of how cold the engine is. As soon as I start the truck in 30 degree weather, the fan runs. If the engine is on, fan is on. I took the fan off and it did not appear to have a temperature sensor, so I think this is one of those fans that runs at all times and just constantly cools the engine. Does that sound right? It also spins nicely and does not appear that any internal clutch--if any--has seized up.

    My question is: what type of fan came on this truck? Should I try a fan that has a temperature sensor/clutch so that it only runs when the engine gets hot?

    Are you using electrical fan? I believe this truck come with fan clutch type fan, the type your pulley turn the fan.

    This is just a mechanical fan attached to the pulley and driven by the serpentine belt. Not electric. I don’t think it has any type of clutch though because it is always running.

    The fan will always turn when the engine is running. As for the fan clutch, it will lock the fan in or release it as needed.

    Cool. I didn’t see a temperature sensor anywhere. How does the clutch know when to engage/disengage?

    When the clutch engage, you will hear the roar of the fan blowing. After it has enough, the fan will move to the normal engine speed (slower).

    Yeah you’re right. There’s some centrifugal clutch mechanism that disengages after a certain RPM. The fan is indeed always on, but stays at a lower rpm. Thx!
