I am in the middle of aquiring a 88 ranger from my aunt. It has been sitting for the past 3 years so I am not even sure if I can get it to start. I know I need to get the bad gas out of there, change the fluid, air/change tires, and new battery. Is there anything else I would need to do?
Also the reason it sat for so long is that when you would have it in first gear idling, if you did not constantly give it gas, it would die. Any ideas on what would cause this? Possible fix's?

I am on a very tight budget at the moment as I am a student and pay all my out bills.

Thanks for the help and expect me to be lurking around trying to figure these trucks out!

By all means get the fuel out of there. Check all fluids for contamination, what engine is this, am assuming its fuel injected if a 4 cylinder, a 6 cylinder, well I geuss thats fuel injected also. Idle speeds are controlled by the IAC, bolted onto the throttle body. Disconnect coil wire and crank engine to pump some oil around, connect wire and let her go. As a safety thing have a fire extinguisher handy. We want to get the engine smoking, not the whole truck.

Syphon hose will remove most, the last bit will blend with the new fuel. Guess you could be high tech and use the electric fuel pump, will have to jumper the fuel relay as key on only runs pump 2-3 seconds until engine fires up, then the relay gets new life from another circuit.
