hydraulic hood lifts?

just wondering if anyone has installed these on a hood that had the stick thing. i want to put them on mine but i dont really know where to start.
 
I have seen people install them. I am still thinking of doing it myself. There is a kit around 88.00 on ebay I am trying to find. It comes with everything you need. One issue is they may get in your way when working on the truck from the side.
 
Certain year Explorers use hydraulic lifts on the hood hinges. 95 to 01 I think. Explorer's uses 2 different hinges for driver and passenger. The driver side is the same as a Ranger. Minor modification to the firewall.
 
Explorer hinges have shocks attached to the hinge itself and function the same way as having the addition of aftermarket struts/shocks to hold up the hood.

I have looked into the Expo hinges too. I found they are bigger than our stock ones and you WILL have to widen the holes. It IS doable for sure, but if you are leary about chopping your truck a little, stick with the kit.
 
hey Clinton would you mind posting the ebay link if you come across it? i didn't know there was a kit out there. i knew of one awhile back, but the company went out of business.

I had to dremel about 3/16 inch the whole way around the opening.

That's not too bad, I know some are afraid to do it but I may give it a shot some day

Thanks for the link...I couldnt find it!! The expo hinges are cheaper for sure, BUT, if you pull them from a junkyard like I have in the past, some of the struts/shocks are shot so you would have to get new ones from a dealer that fit correctly.
 
I saw that they fit on the EDGE Hoods but wondered if this changed mounting location take care of any extra stress on the fiberglass.

I like the idea but am leary of cracking the hood.

no problem. and thats true....eh screw it when i get the $ ill just buy the kit :P lol

I've had mine on for more than a year and no signs of cracking. The only thing that the instructions doesn't mention is the front rubber hood bumpers. Need to cut them to look like a L. Then the end of the shock sits on it.
