Don't trust the fuel gauge

94 Ranger xlt 4.0 new fuel pump, had to tweak the unit to make it fit and mount properly, now the fuel gauge doesn't read correctly. Probably because I tweaked it? Is there a shorter length unit possibly? Thx!

My new to me 96 xlt has an issue of gas gauge does not work, is there a fuse in fusebox for it ? I don't have the owners manual
