does output speed sensor cause Overdrive light to flash and rough shifting automatic

I'm trying to replace the output speed sensor on the transmission (automatic) on a 2011 ranger 2.3L. Every video I've watched shows that it is a short 5-10 minute job...yeah, sure. I spent 3 1/2 unsuccessful hours wrestling with trying to get at and remove the #27 torx bolt.
I have the replacement part and I'm intending to fix my overdrive light flashing on and off and my transmission is shifting hard. I checked youtube and there are a few posters who claim success. I have two questions:
1. Can I get at the sensor through a (i think) removable under the carpet?
2. Has anyone viewing this post had success with this fix?
I've been told that the output speed sensor is strictly for speedometer and nothing else. My gut tells me that the computer uses the output speed sensor data to compare and analyze other sensor data and further send shift data to the transmission.

1. No, you can't access the sensor from inside the cab. It's on the transmission housing, outside. You'll need to get under the truck. A swivel socket and/or extension might help with that bolt. PB Blaster penetrating oil can help too.

2. Yes, the output speed sensor (OSS) can absolutely cause those issues. The PCM (computer) uses the OSS signal for shift scheduling. A bad OSS can cause erratic shifting, OD light flashing, and even prevent the transmission from shifting into OD at all. It's a common problem on these trucks. If your speedometer is working correctly, it doesn't necessarily mean the OSS is good, it can still send a bad signal to the PCM.

Is It a #27 torx inside a 10 mm hex head bolt or just torx?
Fortunately, it's a Texas born and raised truck...no rust just oil and dirt mixed.
BTW, Thanks.

Okay I replaced the output speed sensor which did not fix the problem. It is throwing PO715, PO717 (Input/Turbine speed sensor circuit)
Does anyone here know where the input /Turbine speed sensor is located? My searches indicate there is one but I'm not sure where it's located. I suspect the transmission pan has to be removed to locate it. I hope not.
