lemme know if they do light up if you find a set man. from what i saw in pics the peices are just the handle bezal and the switch insert, so i would think it's a fairly simple swap.

problem with the expo's is they've got a compleatly differant door panel setup... i thought about trying a swap but the door handle location is wrong too, probibly alot of re-working needed... might give one another look if i find one in the JY though.

I forgot I have a few set of the Ex Sport Door switches in the parts pile. I was going to throw all of them out because I didn't have time to check for fit.
I need to check out two things, one being the fit of the actual Ex switch in the Ranger Door Panels and then the ability of the switch to let light through.
I also have Ranger door panels so I have the stuff just need the get-go.
I would like to say I will do it tomorrow but I can say I will try to check them out.

I originally took the switches from the JY because they are larger than the Ranger version and now we will see about the rest.

I will post up when I get something.
If I don’t get to it today it won’t happen for another month won’t be here.

So far, the switches appear to be rounder, higher and a little larger than the Ranger counter parts.
I am thinking a little creative work and they will fit, should be different and a good mod.
I am not sure but they look like you can drill up from the bottom of the switch levers (carefully) and add an LED on each side to light them up, red of course.

That is all I've done, packing for a trip and found out I am leaving a day earlier so time wasn’t on my side…

If all can wait I will be back in three or four weeks and will take things apart to see what can actually be done.
Sorry for the delay but I would like to do this and when I get back I will have more answers.
I had the idea when I was taking apart a 2000+ Explorer Sport in the JY, took the switches from both doors but did nothing, sort like most of my projects, very slow.

Another thing to add to the long list of up coming mods.

If anyone gets to do this or some of it please post it up, hopefully with pictures.

I havent found any yet either, but I think the swap is simple and I do not believe they light up. Maybe Buggman can work his magic on them.

i asked a guy with a '10 XLT directly over on the "other" forum, and he told me that they do in fact light up. from what he said they actually light up with the headlights off or on, kinda like the headlight switch itself, so that's pretty cool! now i just need to find a set that dosin't cost a zillion bucks! lol

here's one i found. a swap would not only require the new switch panel but also a new door handle bezal... but that's easy enough to swap. i'm wondering if the plugs for the new switches are the same or if you would need to splice the harness togeather.

^ guess you'll need to click it.

Wonder what part of the panel is interchangeable, the whole thing maybe.

    Thanks for the pics.

Just looked again at the pics.
Looks like the switch panel and the outer part might be a swap over, looks very similar in shape.

Anyone with a newer Ranger have any comments on compatibility of these parts ?

I haven't tried any mods to the explorer switches yet, sorry.

    Actually forgot about it.

    Maybe this weekend.

lol that's ok man, i actually forgot about this thread, lol.

i'm 98% sure those switches, along with the handle bezal, will swap onto almost any older ranger door panel. i've got the exact same door panel, just a differant door handle bezal and fabric insert (mines vinyal). i even swapped '08 armrests onto my doorpanels and they were a direct swap.

That would be nice if it interchanged.

The Explorer Sport Door Switches will not interchange.
    Different switch housing altogether.
Ex Sport switches do not come apart vey easy, broke a set just trying to get apart to see if the light thing was there and no, no lights.

I will have to look into the newer switch panels and inserts, what year did they start using the newer switches ?

You'll need the harness also. The connectors ARE different. I investigated these for my truck, but finding the bezel, switches and the harness was very difficult/expensive at the time.
I can't recall at the moment about the wiring itself. The newer trucks have switched grounds for a lot of the truck. This is the problem I ran into when I installed the 07 headlight switch and bezel. I have an 07 EVTM that I will check later. You must make sure the new switch can handle the amperage of the window motors. Otherwise we will need to use relays. 1 for up and 1 for down for each door. 4 relays total. The wiring would be a bit complex but possible. That's sort of a worst case scenario.

I just remembered another issue. You need the large bezel the goes around the door handle also. It's the one that's about 1 foot in size. I think the interior door release handle also.

I just e-mailed a couple of people selling switch assemblies.
Asked for switch and panels and the door insert to mount the panel.
Waiting to hear on a package deal.
Also asked for the connectors and about 12" of the harness.
