Anyone (buggman?) know how much room i have in the front turn signals on a 2003 edge? I need to know how tall of a bulb will fit.
I want to get the amber version of my reverse leds. They are kind of tall. They just fit in the rear assembly.
 
I may be going out on a limb here, but I believe you've got a lot more room to work with in the front housings than you do the rears. You can always take a tape measure or stick a straw through the hole in the housing and measure/make a Sharpie mark. Preferably on the outside edge of the hole as the lense cover is angled compared to the bulb holder that square to the truck.

I have a concern as far as output goes and the overall look if they were to be in the front signals. Sure they work great in the reverse spot, but up front, I'm afraid it'll be a single overpowering "dot" that will be seen. For signals and brakes, you'd want a wide spread (and bright) light. Many of the LED options out there work better for a deep housing (like the VLED V3 bulb or the Elef LED for example), not super super shallow and a very very shallow reflector bowl like our 01-12 Ranger's have. LED's up there is a difficult thing in my opinion. If only there were back-firing options out there.

I'm not telling you don't do it, but merely pointing some things out to think about. Best bet is to toss your reverse lights into a headlight and see how you like the results.

I have a few guys using my old 68 led's in the front turn signals... they're about 55mm (close to 2") overall from bottom of the base to tip of the led array.

Are your turns the ones in the same housing as the headlights?

You should be good with most types of led's, but those cree style led's FXwannabe pictured would probably be better for reverse lights as they'll have a longer throw but maybe not quite as much fill in light as some others.
I'd be interested to see how the yellow cree style would look in clear housings though.

I've modded some amber/yellow 68 led's in the past & I may have some more hidden away in my boxes of ranger led's waiting to be modded.
 
These are what I want to use, but in amber. They have 12, 5050 on the sides and a Cree Q5 in the projector. They are 55mm tall. The front projector lens is easily removable.
Yes my turn signals are in the headlight housings.

I think those should work just fine.

They'll have good fill in light via the 5050 smd led's around the sides & should have good long throw light with the cree emitter.
 
No idea on these bulbs but I am thinking you will blind someone as soon as you make your first indicated turn.

These are meant for backup lights ?

Just thinking… why not just measure up the area inside of the housing and then get an LED bulb meant for directionals ?

I don't think so on the blinding, The amber color will tone them down. I was planning on making sure first though. ;). I can sand those projector lenses if needed. The exact bulbs are dual element amber leds made for directionals. They have the exact same housing and configuration as the above photo. I used that photo because I already had it on photobucket.
In order to measure the inside, I would have to remove the light fixture. I figured Buggman would know and save me from doing that task. Not to mention I wanted to hear his experience.
I will post a photo of the exact led.

This is another option I have. Same Cree and SMD setup, but the projector is diffused. These come from Hong Kong directly.

I have held off replacing the front directional bulbs because I could find something I liked, this is nice IF it works out !

Waiting for night pictures.

Bulbs came today. Fantastic!
They are brighter on the "flash". I don't think that they are as bright as the standard bulb on the parking light. Maybe 80%. Don't know, just guessing. It's not a problem though. They are still bright enough and very visible from all directions. Even in daylight.
It was interesting to watch one standard bulb and one led. It was very visible how much faster the led comes on. I also installed Nokya 9500 2500k bulbs in the fogs.

I just got a set of similar led's in white 3156's to test for a possible replacement for my 120 white reverse led's.

They have good fill light in the reflectors & pretty good distance throw... looks promising.

Have you upgraded the flasher to an EP-27 to combat hyperflash?

I upgraded the flasher a long time ago. Way before I even started putting in the led's

I put a set of those in my reverse lights already...

Yes, I am very pleased with these bulbs. The one minor odd thing is that now the hazards and turn signals will set off the "lights on" beeper when the door is open .
