bearings without press

i will soon replace my differential carrier bearings and i will have significant logistic problems getting to a press. i see videos of people heating the bearings to flat out hammering the new bearings on. i have seen the heating method used in some heavy equipment. has anybody had success with bearing installs without a press?

so i just did a shake and bake with the pinion bearing. that is where you freeze the pinion and bake the bearing to 400 deg for 30 min. the bearing then drops right into place with no pressing, hammering or shaking just as shown in the video. so there is no shake to the shake and bake but i have no clever phrasing for this process. now my question is has anybody tried this with the carrier bearings?

What Richard said.
Basically the same trick one would do with rods and piston pins, when replacing pistons.
I know you can get an old race off, by welding a bead right down the middle of the race.
The heat from the welding will expand the race and you can remove it with a pulley puller, or sometimes, a crow bar.
