I only drive it about 1000 miles/month. Luckily, I have a nice long while between its 5k services. I'm not much of a do-it-yourselfer when it comes to my vehicle bit I did repair a hole in the tailgate with some gorilla glue, a piece of old mudflap and a bumper sticker. My repairman had a laugh over that. Cheap, I know, but it worked for me!

Now if I could only do something about the gas mileage...

    Update:

My truck went in to the dealer this week for its 5000 mile service. A new seatbelt cost me $400, which I am told is a significant 'discount' on the part and the labor. ("The part is very expensive.")

After going back and forth, over and over with not only the service manager but the General Manager as well, they refused to foot the bill for this repair. I told them I had been a faithful customer for nine years. Was it worth $400 for my continued loyalty to not only their business, but to Ford vehicles?

The General Manager said that when the tech removed the door panel to replace the seatbelt it was 'very dirty', whatever that means. He also insinuated that since I take it to the horse farm every day, that's probably the reason it's dirty, and if I continue to drive the truck there, a seatbelt failure will probably happen again.

?!?!?! Does this guy think I live under a rock?

I don't know if this man really believed what he was saying or if he really expected me to believe it. Completely insulting.

I told him, "I am done with your dealership and I am done with Fords in general."

I respect the people on this forum. I have been looking around and I am amazed at what can be done with this vehicle. I had to get the belt replaced - it had lost all tension. I wish I had your wherewithall and expertise to have changed the belt myself. Unfortunately, my abilities don't include in car repair, customizing or rebuilding.

I really like my truck. I want to drive it until she can't get down the driveway anymore. But I can't in good conscience ever buy another Ford. They made more money than God last year, and they weren't willing to help out a loyal customer. Discount..I'm sure.

    Anyway, sad ending.

Thanks to all the people who replied to my original post.

I know, I know, but the dealer...man...just makes everything worse. And I was a good customer, too.

    Thanks for letting me gripe/whine/whatever.

  8. Where are you located? Dealers are just out to screw you...hard. There's guys on here that are more than willing to come help you out if need be, no matter how far away they are. Just because the dealer is out to get you doesn't mean we are. lol We'll keep that truck running till the end of the world (or December 21st :p). Just stick with it and you'll learn all you need to

Thanks very much. I'm in the area of DC.

I think I'm a pretty well-informed consumer, but these guys just stay on point, like politicians, and don't even acknowledge you. Whenever I have a question, I go online and research, ask my dad and uncles, and can usually find out what I need to. I don't understand much of what I read here, but if it's interesting, I look at the pictures and try to follow the conversations.

The world is ending on Dec. 21st? Damn. I just got new tires, too.

  11. We'll teach you lol And yes it is, according to the Mayans. Haha. DC isn't too far away. If you ever need help with something, just ask and maybe a couple guys could even come down and help

I know that this is a very old thread but I had the same problem and discovered something worth sharing:-

My seatbelt would not retract without help and after searching the internet on how to retension the spring I set about to do the same. However after removing the plastic cover side panel and examining the belt , I noticed that pulling and releasing the section of belt that runs from the coiled spring unit up to the turn around point ( which is attached to the side wall of the vehicle above drivers shoulder) that section of belt retracts beautifully. On closer inspection the turn around point had lots of small hairs and fluff under the belt. Once I had cleaned that out it worked fine again.

Its possible that the same thing happened with horse hair on the turn around point/ buckle on this vehicle. So before changing out your seatbelt winder mechanism or even retension. 1st of all clean belt and the turnaround point.
