when I hit the gas when I am out of gear the engine continues to rev. It doesn't seem to drive any different. When I hit the gas the idle stays high for like ten seconds after I get off the pedal. What is the reason for this?

No the at idle if it were the IAC it would be racing. I had a similar problem with a car I had years ago, the pivot point needed lube and that was it. Check the pedal action itself
If I rev it by hand at the throttle body it does the same thing so I don't think its the pedal. I tried to take a video but my phone blows so it came out really bad

What's weird is that I havnt wheeled in a long time and it just started doing this out of the blue. I took a long drive earlier that day and it was fine then I took a drive about forty minutes from my house and it started doing it half way there
have you done the throttle cable mod? .. if so how many tie wraps? cause too many will change the revolutions
Not yet. I had my brother in law (veteran diesel mechanic) look at it and he said he is 90% sure its the IAC valve. I needed to replace this part anyway due to it causing me to mis fire. It's like $50 and twenty minutes of my time
So I changed the idler air control valve, cleaned my throttle body and greased the return spring on the throttle and its still not running right. Any ideas?
This. They'll stick from time to time. If an IAC is sticking, it's much more noticeable on a manual truck. It'll skyrocket and stay at whatever RPM you were at before you pushed in the clutch.....then at almost at a complete stop, it'll finally drop to normal idle. Hurley, if you haven't done it in a long time, grab some CRC Mass Airflow Sensor Cleaner and attack the MAF, temp sensor, throttle body, and the IAC while they're off the truck. I generally do this every other oil change. The CRC MAFS spray is safe on plastics...idk what engine you've got but my '01 4.0 has a plastic MAF housing. Throttle body cleaner will eat the plastic. Cycle the plunger on the IAC to help free it up and clean out the garbage. It may work better but the plunger may still stick. At that point, I'd suggest a new IAC. I used to have the same sort of issues with my IAC.
