Too much baggage bro! I kicked her to the curb. But man, she was tight  Oh a side note, dont ever EVER offer to do a water pump on a Mazda MX-6...what a bitch. Timing belt, spark plugs, cap, pulleys, PS pump, motor mount, Pretty much EVERYTHING needs to come off of this engine to get to the damn thing. It took 2 people 6 hours to get the damn thing off.
Not bad. Pull the rad, fan & shroud, and belt off, and you'll have easy access to it. Just watch the tranny lines going into the rad.
rad has to come out? cant just do the fan and shroud to get enough room? what about idler pulley on or off? thanks
The fan can't come completely off the threads if the rad is in. My buddy and I learned this when we had to take the water pump off three times lol And I didn't have to do anything with the idler pulley. Just pull the tensioner towards the engine until the belt loosens up enough to get it off.
Craig, The shroud and cooling fan have to come out, pull the lines off the pump, remove the pump. You may have to move the alternator with bracket and the AC compressor, just dont take the AC lines off, just move the ac compressor out of the way. After that install it like any other, clean surface, gasket/sealant.
I didn't have to do anything like that? It was really straight forward on my truck. And use Indian Head sealer... It works amazing.
Thanks Clinton, it looks as if the nut on the fan clutch unscrews then fan and shroud has to come out together or there will not be enough room. so maybe that is why redranger took out the rad. ? I will give it a shot Now I only use gasket sealer indian head is my preferred use too, to only the water pump side and just gasket to the block area sound right? again thanks guys
Well, I ain't gonna sit here and argue with the manual lol That's how I did it and it was easy. Might also be because I have the body lift on. Let us know how it goes man, and good luck! Either way, it shouldn't be bad.
