Windshield wiper sequence

Have an 09 ranger, have found that Ford changed the washer fluid wiper sequence on the newer Rangers.

When using washer fluid, the wipers go into a preset sequence - 3 wipes, a pause, then another single wipe. This last wipe is called a courtesy wipe in the manual.

Am finding that in dry summer or winter conditions, the courtesy wipe smears the windows. Because it's smearing the window, limiting visibility, and distracting the driver I'm finding it annoying.

Anybody know how to turn this off? The dealership says it cannot be done, so I'm hoping there's an aftermarket component that can control this.

Others have given advice about rain-x (it's an awsome product), or interrutping the courtesy wipe by activating the wipers (a distracting and fiddly thing to do), or even wiring diagram solutions. But what I really want is a replacement part or diagnostic tool that can change the wiper sequence. Any ideas?

My best guess would be possibly replacing the wiper module or motor with an older one that doesnt have that feature

my f150 does that........ i hated it with my factory wipers... but now i run rain x washer fluid and use the new style wipers that are like full silicone... i think they were like 60 bucks for both...but they are damn good... im always offroading and the rain x and full silicon wipers clean it clean... and the curtiousy wipe doesnt effect me anymore

Had not thought of an older controller, thanks Hooligan. I'll ask the dealership/Ford if that's compatible. Lots of auto wreckers around too...

Was just in a slushy snowstorm this past week, 400 series highways down to one lane, had to use washer fluid every 30 seconds, and the windshield was a constant smear. Not the kind of thing I want to be concentrating on with tail-gaters and dangerous road conditons.

    Hooligan, do you use rainX?

Nope, when you use it, it wears off then if you dont re-apply and use the wipers it gives the windshield a bad haze

No prob man, if you have used it and want the haze gone use windex or an ammonia based cleaner and it will take that junk off. Make sure you wipe the blades with it too

I was just wondering cause I was gonna start using it soon. But It doesnt rain much here so I dont think the haze would be worth it.

I dont like it myself, The Rain-X works really well but once it wears off and you use the wipers it sucks!
