My 98 has a loud and abnoxious vibration coming from the front end. The U-Joints are stiff and i just replaced the brakes all the way around. Can't figure out what the problem is...

Sounds like wheel bearings and/or balljoints.

I had my buddy go drive it yesterday. he said when your goin real slow in first gear you can feel it. the vibration usually starts around 55mph and when you get 60mph its really really bad. my truck is also a 5 speed btw.

Jack each side up from the Lower control arm to unload the balljoints. Check for play in them. Also, grab the tire at 3:00 and 9:00 and see if there's any play.

You said you checked your u-joints. Driveshaft u-joints or axle u-joints? You might have a late model 97 instead of a 98 if you have u-joints in the front axle.

Good luck and report back to us with any findings

I dont know if you have a carrier bearing or not, but I would check there as well. Some early model 98's had carrier bearings.

I just replace the brake pads maybe a month and a half ago.

Lol yea I re-read the first post then edited mine. Double check them tho. The antivibration clips might have fallen off.

Tires were recently balanced also. But it was the U-Joint in the front drive shaft. Took that out and its fine. Thanks for all the suggestions though.

  13. It's your wheel bearing/hub assemblies for sure. Mine did the same thing, and I'm on my third set of hubs in eight months lol
