Stalls as in it's in a high gear and you let off the clutch, or it'll idle then die? The shift issue may be the common shifter bushing issue. Mazda used plastic bushings for the shifter and are known to degrade and fall out. Or, you have my 2nd issue and your return spring for the reverse blockout broke, now it swings over too far. Check your plastic bushings first, it's a well known issue. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/...ifting-sloppy-and-cant-find-gears-update.html I've rebuilt this transmission once, not sure why it would go into reverse and not 5th as they share a synchro-hub behind the tailhousing. 3rd not going into 4th could be a worn pilot or input bearing. When you can get it to move, does it whine really loud? Lastly, your stalling issue, if it dies without acting like it's trying to move in high gear, check you throttle plate set screw. If it, or it's stop looks mashed up, you may need to adjust the set screw. I have yet to find how to properly do that. It'll play with your base mixture, my '94 4.0l had lean issues and hesitation, along with stalling when cold that I fixed by running that screw in. Tps voltage seemed a little too low explaining the lean mixture and high idle bypass valve open percentage. But, do check other things such as MAF sensor, fuel pressure, vacuum leaks, etc... before you mess with throttle position.
