Electrical gurus i have some questions!

ZRanger28

Got boost?
okay guys/gals a couple real quick questions.

I have installed an eletric fan on my ranger ( it works great and looks sooooo much cleaner) but i have a couple issues.

1. When it starts as with all eletrical motors it has a major amp pull. and that amp pull shows on my amp guage on the dash and it pulls it down hard for about 3 seconds as the fan spolls up. then it goes to normal. What do i place in the power wire to get it to stop showing the pull on the guage. ( you can feel the truck studder for a second when it pulls it too) is there a capasitor i can put in the battery/power line to my relay?

2. now I do alot of highway drving and love my CB radio. but when my fan clicks on it whines in my CB. now what do i put in the power lines to stop this and in what line do i install it in. ( i found this on summit http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MSD-8830/?rtype=1 ) would that fix my problem with the CB?

3. My A/C is not a constant pressure A/C clutch so it does the whole cycle on and off all the time. when it cycles my fan cycles with it and i want it so when i turn on my A/C the fan comes on and stays on at all times. anyone have any idea what i should hook into?

Now my fan is ran off a relay (the right way)

If anyone can offer any insight that would be awesome and if you could show me what parts i need would be even better!

Thank you!!!!

The solid purple wire at the HVAC control panel goes hot and stays hot whenever AC operation is commanded. Using this wire to trigger the fan relay would prevent the fan from cycling with the compressor clutch.

You should be able to install a power filter on the CB to help reduce the noise.
I've used them on stereo head units to reduce alternator whine & other annoying noises & they work pretty well.
Something like THIS or THIS might do the trick in your case.

thanks! i will get one of those!

any idea on how to keep the needle from dropping like the bass of skrillex song?

i have a 2 farad capacitor i could use for it. but 2 farad seems like a little overkill for it. and given how big the capcitor is its just alot to stuff in the engine compartment

You might see some improvement by doing the BIG 3 electrical wiring upgrade, but a higher output alternator will definitely help out.

The stock alternators are around 95a but a 130a alternator from an explorer will give you a little boost or you can upgrade to a 200a - 300a if you have a lot of other electrical devices like lights, amps, etc.

i will only have a couple off road lights so i think an expo alt will do for me.

now explain what the big 3 is please. i use to know but i dont remember right off the top of my head

Alternator, wires, and fuses, i think. Really a capacitor really wont do much for you, sure it will stop your amp guage from freaking on you, but it still makes it draw the same amount of power, and a capacitor always draws power, so theres a likely chance it could kill you battery if its ever low

I just did a write-up on my Big 3 HERE

I agree on a cap not doing much to help, I always say they're like putting a bandaid on cancer. Some people swear by them, but I never really had any improvements with them.

I put an expo alt in and it helped a little my amp gusts still does the funky chicken dance a lil but not near as severe. I think ill do the big three next

How is the new alternator working out ?

Sometimes OEM will put in a larger battery along with the larger alternator.

Also, the CB, how is that working out ?

Let the site know how this is work out out ?

Thanks
