Anybody use Dupli-Color Bed Armor Aerosol???

Hey folks.

The time has come to redo my exterior plastics. Last time I did them was early '08 and the Dupli-Color Truck Bed Coating has worked great through all that time. But on the leading edges, the flares are starting to chip and after my recent F250 master cylinder upgrade, I spilled some brake fluid on the LF flare so she's pretty ugly. lol.

Question of the day....Dupli-Color has released a new bedliner/truck bed coating line called "Bed Armor". Anybody use this new "Bed Armor" product in aerosol form?? If so, close up pics are requested to show it's texture.

The "Truck Bed Coating" gave a fairly smooth yet still textured finish. Didn't hang up on the wash mitt like anything roll-on does.

I've googled like mad and it seems no body does aerosol. lol. Thanks for any help/info.
 
i used the bedliner on some ammo cans. absolute crap. the texture flaked off, and it wasn't even that good to begin with. plus it stopped spraying with 1/4 of the can left. now the stuff is flaking off the cans and looks even worse
 
I also ask because if the texture is similar to the product I've already had on the truck, it's a no brainer with it's fade resilient formula.

If no responses come through and I happen to come across a can, I'm nabbing it up and experimenting! Will post results should this happen.

Any prep?

I've had very good luck with the Dupli-Color Truck Bed Coating I've had for quite some time with proper prep....ON PLASTIC! lol.
 
Due to lack of response and info from elsewhere, I've done some work...

Used the stuff I used before: DupliColor Truck Bed Coating. Lasted me about 4-5 years before, so I reused the stuff. And well, it was the stuff I found on the shelves first. lol. Roughly 2 cans per side(2 flares). I estimate after the project I'll use 5 cans, possibly 6. I remembered some things about spraying this product. If near empty, it'll spit out big drops. Which I don't want. So when a can gets to about 25%, I pick up another and keep going. If less than 25%, the can needs to be near vertical for a good spray. Otherwise, droplets appear.


Anyways.... Got the other two flares scuffed with 180 and cleaned, as well as the valence. Tomorrow and the next day I'll spray flares and the valence and reinstall onto the truck if I get around to washing the truck.

I've used the same bedliner in a can as well as some of the rustoleum brand stuff & it holds up really well.
Haven't tried it on my flares yet, but they'll probably get sprayed when/if I ever get the rest of the truck painted.

Mine has a little bit of texture, but it's rather smooth.
 
Looks good. I swear Shane I have always loved your truck.

Even though I was a big fan of my 06 and like the things it has different than the others, like the bumpers, mirrors, badges, etc standard; yours is still ranked right up there with me.

When I buy another one, I swear im going to build one similar and go with the early 00's style rangers with some 06 touches like badges and mirrors but keeping the olders style bumpers and such. I just wish the lifted rangers were more damn comfortable lol. Granted you have coilovers but I used to hate because of how small the truck was and the suspension that you'd feel everything and the bumps sucked, the interior rattles and wind blowing the truck around when lifted. I love em but man those things bothered the piss out of me.

Thanks alot man. She's about as Oh Six'd up as I'm willing to take her. And every '06 piece on the truck has it's own unique custom touch done to them. I'd love to toss on a 04-05 Fx4 LII grille on it with a modified 01-03 powerdome, but other priorities are on the table. But never will she have 06 bumpers or the grille. My truck needs chrome and that chrome 06 grille just is too much for the truck IMO.


I'm a tow truck operator and a mobile battery technician..... So I go to 7-10 different cars a day and let me tell you, every day is a reminder of just how much of a dinosaur these trucks are. I go to 10 year old middle range cars and they're more loaded than even a 2012 Ranger. I can't believe how smooth the Toyota/Lexus 4.7L v8 is. How much nicer just about everything on the road is compared to this dino truck. But I still like mine...don't plan on getting rid of it, but do plan on replacing it sometime soon.

Sooooo apparently I don't entirely remember how to shoot this stuff. The two flares I did on the weekend are kinda shinyish, roughish, and black. The flares and valence I did yesterday and today(inside) are dull, smoothish, and gray. Apparently, I had forgotten this Dupli-Color Truck Bed Coating likes being shot outside with the sun shining on it. 2 days of constant pouring rain forced me inside my shop.

Anywho... Carry on...

I had the rustolium bed liner in the rattle can and is seemed to hold up pretty good. But yesterday i wanted to redo the bottom of my tailgate and my rear bumper and went to 3 different stores without finding any of the rustolium. I ended up using the bed armor in the rattle can and it seems like its going to hold up way better than the rustolium. Layed on way thicker and it actually has that rubbery texture to it like most roll on bedliners. Im going to be re-spraying everything on my truck with the bed armor tomorrow.

Yeah... See I've even tried to find Bed Armor on the shelves and come up empty handed every time. I've gotta settle to what I can get and apparently, what kind of weather I can get to get the finish I'm after. lol.

The Bed Armor....would you mind posting close up pics of it?? My thinking is the texture is there alot more than the other spray-on stuff out there. Your pic will help solve that question.

I know! lol. Technique was nearly the exact same. I think the faster it can dry, the better the outcome. It was almost abuse ready within 5 minutes. Maybe temperature of the part being coated has alot to do with it as well.


A comparison... The black textured is painted with direct sun outside... The grey flat looking flare was painted indoors.

Tomorrow shall be the flare install. Bumper and valence are already back on. I may pick up a new can of the bedliner to use on my rocker panel. Not all the way up to the bodyline, but just up to under the doors. In the full truck pic above, you can see the bare paint from my boots always hitting it. It'll have to be sprayed before flare install....So we'll see...
 
Looks good, I will def have to keep that in mind lol. Does the directions say anything about doing it outside or any of the effects?
 
Got it at walmart for $10.99 a can. Autozone has it for $12.99 i believe. Its sprays on kinda spotty and thick, but as it drys it lays flat and turns out nice. Mine did anyway. Has a rubbery texture to it.

I don't remember but I'm sure it's something to the affect of 60 degree temp and clean parts. Oh and "test in unsuspecting area". lol.

Thanks for posting that!! I really like it. Too late now for me...flares, valence, and KC crossmember have all been installed.
