4.11 or 4.56?

Numbers are what they are, just number.

Although your tire/gear combo will work with a V-8 it might not work as well with a 2.5L or a 3.0L.

Find a friend with the engine you have and the tire/wheel/gears that you are thinking on and drive the vehicle.

I run 33s and a 3.0L, 5sp and I just ordered 4.56 gears.

Will be able to tell you in a week or so if it was the right move.

OK then Dean,
I found that it wasn’t enjoyable to drive the Ranger anymore, could be my age but I refuse to grow up and I really liked driving the Ranger.
Now it is more work than fun, every major hill I have to down shift after hitting the grade and I still slow down but at a higher rpm range. I like shifting, otherwise I would have an AUTOMATIC, (NOT !) but when you are cruising on the hy-way I want to let the truck do the driving so to speak, and it is not happening.

As Fx4wannabe01, a knowledgable guy, stated what he did it says it all,
"compensating for the larger tires...gaining driveability, power, mileage, and reducing drivetrain wear”.
Not much more to say.

Once completed I will post something about it.

Not sure where you are on this but I switched to 4.56 gears.
All I can say is the truck is so much easier to drive.
Takes off easier, pulls better while on the highway.

Now for the new tires, sticking to 33s, was thinking 35s but it would take away from what the truck is now.

Even though the rpms are up I find myself going faster, have to watch the speed-o more; not even sure if it correct or not. With 4.10 gears and 33 tires the speed-o was off by 2 to 3 mphs, I need to get it checked, where are the speed check road signs when you need them.

Why not just time yourself between milage markers?
1 minute = 60mph.

What gear ratio did you decide on ?

I did a rough mpg calculation and figure 18+ highway/city that's with the 4.56s.
I believe that is up from the 4.10, I was getting a varied mpg from 13-16 mpg with the 4.10s.
Once the new tires/wheels are on and things are broke in I will get a better reading on the mpg.
