`1996 ford explorer 4.0L into a 1998 Ford ranger that had a 3.0L

What if any problems will i occur doing this tranfer? Will this even work? I know that i have switched a 4.0 for a 4.0 but never done the 4.0 to a 3.0. Any advice will be greatly appriciated. Thanks.

Trans wont bolt up

Will the trans from the explorer work and transfer case bolt into the ranger?

Should, yes...might have to swap a crossmember ortwo over
