that sucks. this year wasin't too bad, what messed mine up was standing them up in the winter. when i'd go to put 'em down the passenger one would slip out of my hand, hit the antenna and fall apart. then i'd have to spend 15 minutes in the cold trying to put it back togeather.

bought another old homelite for the collection at a swapmeet today, it's MINT :) also got a CB for the truck for $5, came with a noise canceler thingy and an aux speaker, the guy also threw in a bearcat 210 police scanner for free :D plus sold a ton of junk, and a vespa!

might go look at a 2wd ranger for my dad tomorrow, threads like this make me think it'll need a rear spring flip at least :D

i like the semi-gloss, flat kinda looks like it was primed black and then someone forgot to paint it. super glossy will look too show-y and be high maintaince. semi-gloss will give it a tough industrial look, without looking unfinished.

just an update, i finally installed the other rear speaker today, they sound pretty dang good! thanks again for the help :)

yep, our guess was it was leaned against the tree back in the late 40's when the hillside was logged out. killed 3 brand new chains on it! i checked to see if it would fit the old homelite but it didin't :thumbdown: usually we find lots of barbed wire when we're cutting. the hill we cut on...

that's good news, i guess i'll swap the other one in and see what happens. i'm sure the fact they are aimed into the back of my seats dosin't help, lol. as for the speakers, they are cheap (pyle) 6x8 3-ways, that i was given for christmas. they had some decent reviews at least and feel & look...

i finally got to check out that speaker, yep had it wired backwards. swapped the wires around and checked it, still sounds dead compaired to the other stock one. is it possible i fried the new speaker having it wired backwards?

i know around here mold in the basement and wet / damp basements are a huge issue, many of the houses have poor drainage. 'an like brad said the electrical can be a big issue in an older house, especially one that's been remodeled. you also want to check around for rotted wood & insect...

we had our woodstove going last night too! just for a couple hours to take the chill out of the house. from what i hear up where my grandmother lives in the adarondacks they got a couple inches on the ground!

a 3.0 does have one big coil pack, that all the wires plug into on top of the engine (towards the firewall, passenger side). however if that failed usually it would cause a missfire on one cylinder, making the truck run like crap but it will run (i've been there, lol). i would check the plug...
