Front end shimmy with 2008 Ranger at 60+ MPH

+1 to Tom Autry's comment, and I will add, VERY likely.

Looking to swap 2.3 for something with more zip. Got any suggestions.

I've been thinking about doing the same with my truck...there was a 3.73 ratio available, too.

    ranger Beds

Interesting. I don't think I've ever seen a Ranger with a stepside that wasn't an Edge. However, my point was that there were stepside beds made for the Ranger. The jist I got from the OP is that he wasn't sure if such a thing existed and that if it did, is it a straight swap between the two...

    Blower motor

For those of us who struggle with abbreviatioins,....psc? ecm?...and what the hell is a "shaded pole motor"? Aren't they either ac or dc, or both?

    ranger Beds

Here's an ad (unfortunately, already sold) showing another step side Edge. If you go through the pics, it shows some good views of how the bed fits on the truck. https://www.swapmotors.com/buy/listing/1/d/5b328cb8cc271e3b6f002054

If it came off an Edge, yes.

Idle too fast on cold start

Actually the opposite is true. In the old days, when my dad turned a wrench for the USAF, it wasn't unusual for an engine to have a low idle speed of between 400-500 rpm. He figured out that the lack of speed of such a low idle was causing the engine to run at too low of oil pressure and that...

    4.0L timing chain question

Back in the old days, before the advent of "belts", a timing chain would generally last about 100-120K or maybe even a little more. This is with classic American engines. By that time, it was probably time for a rebuild anyway. One reason why the Chevy six was popular, because it was gear drive...

Idle too fast on cold start

Does it rev up ANY TIME you take it out of gear (like when coming to a stop), even when the engine is warmed up, and then the revs suddenly drop, just before you come to a stop?

    Howdy

Welcome old timer! I learned from my dad when I was very young, plus I took a little schooling, too. Don't work on cars so much anymore, but I still like to help when I can. Look forward to seeing future posts from you.

    regular oil or synthetic

If it was pure synthetic, watch for oil leakage. Spots on the floor, stuff like that. The adage for quite a while now has been, if your engine has put on a fair amount of miles with regular oil and you suddenly change to synthetic, it will bleed oil from anyplace that can....the more miles on...

    Tires

Sorry Ryan, this stupid forum ( ) won't let me correct a mistake I made in my prior post, so I'll have to correct it here. Towards the end of that response, I wrote; "This will give you an idea of what size tire you'll be looking for.". What I meant to write was...that will give you an...

    Tires

The formula for calculating tire height is...……. ...the tire's listed size. Seriously! The stock size is 245/75-R16 Divide 245 by 25.4. This will give you the "inch" equivalent to that metric measurement (its in millimeters, btw). The next number (75) is the aspect ratio...

    2002 ranger questions

You have one tranny option - the auto tranny and the transfer case that was attached to it (I believe they were married by 2002). Oh sure, you could swap to the 5 speed manual, but then you'll need to pull the steering column, so you can pull the shifter (possibly need to acquire a different...
