    Gear ratio debate

There should be a silver tag on the differentials. The ratio is listed there. I looked it up and you have the same tranny my '98 does. The OD in 5th is 21% or .79:1. Most Rangers came with 3.45 gears in the axles. If that's what you have, then in 5th, your effective gear ratio is 2.7255:1, which...

    On Avoiding Oil Additives

The Overdrive Trucker news, or Truckers report....something like that. Yes, I remember that one. Brief news quip that came on around 12:30 or 1 am, told you about industry happenings. I used to listen to that when I worked on the big trucks, especially on those nights when I drove home. As for...

    4H and 4L Gearing

According to what I can find, your transfer case is a BW 1354 with a 2.48:1 reduction in low range. Your M5OD-R1 transmission has a 3.72:1 reduction in first gear and you've already noted your axles are packed with 3.73's. ...now all we need to do is multiply.... 3.72 x 3.73 = 13.8756:1...

Darren, I think you meant to make that its own post, not a reply in a thread on a completely different subject.

    Full-Size Ford Truck Tranny....

From the 60's to the 90's Ford made a 4-speed OD manual transmission that they put in the full sized trucks, vans and 4x's. The original one used a cast iron case, but at some point during the 80's they changed it to an aluminum case. Gear ratios changed slightly when that happened. I always...

    Clutch Issues

Well, it could be you have multiple air bubbles in the line, so keep going until the pedal stiffens up. If it becomes slack again, after all the air's been bled out, you've got a leaky somewhere in your line. ...also, I found these on YouTube. May help with the bleed out.....

    Clutch Issues

Does continued bleeding seem to help? Does the tranny seem to shift ok (or better, anyway) after bleeding, but then becomes harder to shift later on?

    Clutch Issues

Sounds like you need to bleed the system. Have you tried that already?

    2.5L Tune Up Q?

Thanks for your help, Zappy Bear. I have a 2.5. It does have 8 plugs. I had a tune up done about 22K miles ago. Interval for Ford is 30K per tuneup (what they told me at the dealership). I have been no where near the injectors, so no way I could have upset them in any way. Does your manual make...

    2.5L Tune Up Q?

Thanks for helping me out. Interested to see what your manual says. As for the issues I'm currently having with the truck, I changed out the IAC and the idle smoothed out. What I have now is an erratic throttle response. VIOLENTLY erractic throttle response. I tried driving it up the road...
