Ranger rear end rattling and shakes thru 30-40 mph

I just went back through this thread and noticed that you never mentioned having the tire balance checked. I thought you mentioned it before, but it appears you didn't. Have you done that yet?

Ranger rear end rattling and shakes thru 30-40 mph

Just shake the rear axle and/or lift it and see if you get any movement. Listen for a tell-tale "clunk" (don't shake too hard, we don't want the truck coming down on you ;) ). Same goes for the pinion in the rear end. Grab it and see if you get any up-and-down movement independent of the rest of...

Ranger rear end rattling and shakes thru 30-40 mph

Check for anything loose, like the U-joints, pinion shaft or worn bushings (you'll have to put the jack stands on the frame so you can check the rear end and suspension for movement)....also, make sure all the u-joints are situated in the same direction. If you're not careful, you can get them...

Great. Good luck. Let me know if you have any more questions concerning this.

Just bought a 1993 Ranger... a few questions...

I'd start with the hubs. Could be one side is engaging and the other isn't. Why? could be a thousand reasons. Does it have big tires on it? That could account for a loose steering box. The cure is likely a new steering box. Have it aligned while you're doing all this front end work, too. It can...

    Pic size limit.

I don't, but try again and see if it doesn't say so somewhere, when it rejects your photo (seems like they used to, but not always anymore). If you want to shrink your pic, without cropping it, you can open it in paint and reduce its size by clicking on "resize" from the toolbar at the top of...

Sounds like it to me. Is the boot ripped? If so, then its obviously a bad CV.

    hub swap auto to manual

The only reasons I can think of why your wheels would change is... A) If you used a non-stock tire size that was so different, the rim had to be changed to mount the tire safely. B) Changing the hubs meant changing out the entire axle and it is longer/shorter than the stock axle (of course, at...

    Engine Swap 1997

You'll likely have to change the tranny mount. Otherwise, I don't see why not....as long as all the electronics hook back up the same way.

    Transmission info

I had an '89 B2200 for 21 years....in fact, my '98 Ranger replaced it. The tranny in your Mazda is an older version of the one in the Ranger. The 5 speed is known as an M5M-D Ratios are 3.622/2.186/1.419/1/.858 The auto tranny in your truck is a 3-spd w/OD and is known as N4A-HL Ratios are...

Parking brake light intermittently coming on

If the brake fluid is that low, that means its sitting in the cylinders, which means the brakes are worn and need replacing....yet the OP says the brakes are fine. Thus my question.

Parking brake light intermittently coming on

...but why would the brake fluid be low if the brakes are good? Maybe Blake only checked the fronts and the rears are almost to the rivets? ...also, check for the loose wire you mentioned. That could do it too.
