    Idles fine, won't rev

Well, it's been too long since an update. Injectors didn't solve the issue. It's really strange, it hit the rev limiter when I first replaced the pump assembly but now it just sputters out and backfires when I hit the gas. What changed over time? The fuel pressure comes out fine at idle and when...

    Idles fine, won't rev

I took the intake to find the injectors clogged. I ordered 6 new ones as the metal casing was almost rotted out. I'm guessing it's gunk from the old gas. Anyone got any idea on making sure this gunk won't get into the new injectors if any remains in the system?

    Idles fine, won't rev

I've got an issue I'm about to give up on. I got a "new to me" 1994 4.0l. Alot of you will probably remember the thread I made on it. Well, it now idles just fine, will start up, but if you try to drive it, it'll attempt to stall like it's running too lean. I've tried unplugging the MAF and...

New old buy, doesn't move '94 ranger

Ok, ranger moves, feels solid, no slipping in 1st or second. I haven't road tested it yet. I replaced the spark plugs and confirmed ignition was all working but it still misses badly. Not sure if this is due to bad gas left in the tank that I mixed with fresh gas (about an 8th of a tank that I...

New old buy, doesn't move '94 ranger

Got it home yesterday. The guy claimed he had it running the day before, turns out he probably had it running months before. The gas was well stale, and the fuel pump assembly well rotted. I replaced that and it runs, horribly though. I put enough gas in it for it to run, then some MMO to clean...

    Idle problem

Check the "screw" that sets the idle rpm. It could be worn and worked the idle rpms down too low.

Help please. With a 93 lock cylinder.

I do believe with my 93 I had there is still a rod and separate switch further down the column. I'll be able to confirm that when I pick up a '94 ranger later today. Like I had put in other replies recently, where's Mhoward? He knows pretty much everything when it comes to 2nd gen rangers.

Looking to swap 2.3 for something with more zip. Got any suggestions.

I'm not really finding anything online about what would be good drop-in/bolt-up without changing the tranny. If you've got the money, I'd put a 4.0l with the manual transmission. My '93 4x4 with the 4.0 got 16 mpg with the manual tranny. It's also got plenty of power. If not, I wonder if the...

New old buy, doesn't move '94 ranger

Thanks pete! I'll give that a try. I'm picking it up today and I'll try the shifter idea. I thought the D vs OD was D being the lack of overdrive for towing which everybody in my area does. I'm even wondering in the shift mechanism on the transfer case failed in the middle of a shift getting the...

    Manual to auto hub swap

What is required to swap manual locking hubs to auto hubs on a 1994 ford ranger?

New old buy, doesn't move '94 ranger

Hey ya'll, been a while. Sold the '93 regrettably and a few vehicles later I have a '03 Ford Escape and I'm missing my 4x4 ranger. So, I found one online. It's a 1994 4.0l 4x4 automatic stx model. It's not like the old red one I had. But, What do you think is the most common issue is that would...

    Clanking tranny when shifting

You may be due for a tranny rebuild. If it's 2 wheel drive, if 4 wheel drive check transfer case first. On my 4.0l i think the tranny wore out enough that even after a rebuild there is enough wear in the gears for it to go clunk on take off. It's most noticiable when taking off uphill. Although...

    Speedometer

From what vinn is talking about, you didn't happen to use a magnetic screwdriver when talking it apart? Also, if you take it back apart, pull the center of the cable out and smear it with lithium grease. It'll keep the speedometer needle from jumping later on.

    Transmission Blockout?

Cool, I like the small size of a Bronco II, but I also like the hauling capabilities of my '84 f150 so I may look for a plain 'ol bronco. And I have an off topic question. I noticed you looking through the wheel bearing post that I started talking to myself on.... Why was the person that started...

    Transmission Blockout?

I've been wanting to find a decent bronco or bronco 2, they just look cool, and the passenger space looks nice. How are they on fuel economy? I know Google can give me some answers, but nothing beats real world expirience.

    Transmission Blockout?

Jump the transfer case chain? What's that like? A Jeep needing a new engine, doesn't surprise me. Unless it's a diesel, that seems to be the only thing Chrysler can get right.

    Transmission Blockout?

Yeah, I liked it better when GM used the T5 transmissions that had external slaves. Once I got the bolts removed and transfer case off, it wasn't bad. It's the fact that the ranger was 4 wheel drive is what made it a pain. The Sonoma took me longer to take out the tranny, even though it was only...

    Transmission Blockout?

Eh, it's not too bad on the Mazda transmissions and early Ford transmissions. Now Chevy transmissions on the other hand, area a b****. The Sonoma I regrettably got to use while I fixed the ranger has a New Venture Gear 1500. They are a pain to get apart, and nobody sells rebuild kits. What I...

    Transmission Blockout?

Nope, it does not. I looked for one because my rubber tranny plug has become dried and I needed to put freeze plugs in. I thought it may even have a welded or glued on tranny hump. I couldn't find a seam anywhere. I did end up cutting a hole in the tranny hump under the dash to access the...

    Transmission Blockout?

You have to take the tranny completely out and take the top cover off. There is a boomerang shapes peice of metal held on by a "c" clip that needs to go. I have no idea why it fails. I used to be able to take it out of 5th, rock it back and forth in neutral a few times and put it in reverse...
