    98 ranger 5.0 swap

Good luck. The smallish 5.0 Ex trans mount is a weak point and chances of finding a decent used one are slim. It might be OK to use an old one to get the project together but I'd get a new one on order.

    o2 sensor

The P1131 code relates to the signal from the upstream sensor to the PCM. Like I said before, it could be that the O2 sensor itself is bad or it could be that the sensor is reporting a lean condition caused by something else.

    o2 sensor

Look near the outlet of the exhaust manifold or nearby in the exhaust pipe connected to the exhaust manifold. There will be a 4-wire sensor screwed into one or the other.

    o2 sensor

Rangers have 1, 2, 3 or 4. Your 97 2.3 has 2 oxygen sensors. P1131 is for the sensor that is upstream of all cats.

    o2 sensor

OK, that piece of information would have been helpful in the first post. A P1131 might mean that the oxygen sensor is bad. On the other hand, it may simply be that the sensor is reporting a real lean condition that is caused by something else. Oxygen sensor codes like this are not always...

    o2 sensor

A CEL can come on for any of hundreds of different reasons. It would be a good idea to get the actual trouble code before condemning a particular sensor or any other component.

    flashing check engine light

More correctly, there could be damage to the catalytic converter(s). The flashing CEL is reporting misfire and, during misfire, the cat temperature may increase enough to permanently reduce catalyst efficiency. If allowed to go higher yet, internal temperature could even melt the ceramic...

    flashing check engine light

The flashing CEL means that misfire is currently being detected by the PCM. The most common cause is deteriorating ignition components like plugs and wires or possibly coils. If it has been a long time since the plugs and wires were replaced, look there first. Although less common, a flashing...

Way to make ur 2 or 4 door super cab adopt a 7ft bed

There is a small amount of difference year to year but most have something like this: Supercab 6ft: 19.5 gal Regular cab 6ft: 16.5 gal Regular cab 7ft: 20 gal So you wouldn't gain anything worth talking about if you adapted a factory 7ft tank in place of a factory Supercab tank. I suppose that...

    aluminized? exhaust system

Your stock Ford exhaust system is stainless steel although it is the low grade 409 stainless that most OEM's use because of its lower cost. 409 takes a long time to rot through but it does develop a layer of surface corrosion that detracts from its appearance. 200 and 300 series stainless...

    auto windows

It's actually quite easy to add the PS autodown. Just 5 wires from the JY module tapped into the Ranger door harness. I've done this conversion in a parking lot at a Ranger meet.

    auto windows

No, that won't work. The 2002 autodown DS window is controlled by the GEM module. You can add auto down on the PS (and even auto up on both windows) by wiring in early 90's Taurus module(s). http://www.cardomain.com/ride/296394/2002-ford-ranger-regular-cab/page-22

    melted

Recheck the color code to see if it isn't actually a discolored white w/black stripe. If wh/bk, it should be the short wire from the 1-wire stator connector to the 3-wire regulator connector (stator and regulator are both are part of the alternator assembly).

    AHHHH! Burned my wiring harness!

harness and PCM 97 2.3L automatic only. (2.3L SOHC discontinued for 98 and later Ranger. 96-back uses different auto trans wiring and different PCM.) Not sure if 4x4 truck will work as a harness/PCM donor. This is not much of an issue since 2.3 4x4's are rather rare compared to 2WD...

Electrical gurus i have some questions!

The solid purple wire at the HVAC control panel goes hot and stays hot whenever AC operation is commanded. Using this wire to trigger the fan relay would prevent the fan from cycling with the compressor clutch.

    inconssitant fuel pressure

To summarize: New fuel pump. New fuel filter. Measured fuel pressure drops to 25 PSI during the problem. Swapped regulator?? You didn't report back on that one. I'd also pull a vacuum on the pulse damper and see if it holds - it should if the diaphragm is OK If all of the mechanicals seem...

    inconssitant fuel pressure

Have you actually measured it during the problem or are you assuming that the fuel pressure is the cause?
  18. rwenzing

    inconssitant fuel pressure

Your 98 pressure should be a constant pressure of about 64 PSI +/- 8 PSI. The damper does not affect overall system pressure but helps to minimize pressure waves within the rail.
  19. rwenzing

    inconssitant fuel pressure

98 and later Ranger has the fuel pressure regulator inside the fuel tank on the pump assembly. The part on the 98+ rail is the fuel pulse damper.

For Sale: 97 Explorer Message Center

There is a different insert for the same full length console that was used on Explorers without the Message Center. It already has a storage pocket. I believe that the MC buttons are "momentary on" pushbuttons. A pushbutton like that would need a set of 4 relays to convert it to an on-off switch.
