GF Performance Chip Kit for the FORD RANGER

$69 for a nickel resistor in a box to make it look like it is more than it is. Sounds like a formula for big profits. This is a commercial version of a cheap hotrodder's trick that has been around for as long as EFI has. All it does is put a resistor in series with the Intake Air Temp sensor to...

"check gas cap" light 2001 edge 4.0

The "cap off" light is the precursor to the OBDII code for a relatively large leak in the evaporative emission system. Ford added that light to help avoid a possible EPA-mandated recall action just because a few people left the pump without replacing the fuel cap. Since you have already...

"check gas cap" light 2001 edge 4.0

Assuming that the gas cap issue is fixed, all you need to do now is clear the P1000 code. This is accomplished when all of the OBDII monitors complete. Some are quick, others require very strict entry conditions and, depending on your driving habits and route, may take a long time to complete...

    Front Diff ’03 EDGE

You are correct. 98+ 4x4 Rangers have a special version of the D35 up front. The outputs to the halfshafts are 27 spline. Maybe that's the reason for the "27" designation on your tag?

    EGR valve

Since your Ranger's EGR only operates at part throttle, it has zero effect on WOT HP or performance. Fuel economy may be VERY slightly improved with the EGR operational because it allows more spark advance. In short, there is nothing to gain by tampering with an EGR system that is in good...

    Rotor sizes ?

2003 2WD Rangers: 11.28" rotor only. 2003 4x4 Rangers: Mid-model year change from 11.28" rotor (early) to 12" (late). Steering knuckle changed to match. Some accounts put the production changeover at 3/3/2003 but there is some doubt about that date. 2WD rotors include the bearing hub, 4WD do...

    Little green cap?

On most vehicles, that port would rarely or never be used. Normally, the cap would be removed only as necessary to leak-test the evap system by injecting smoke into it. The usual reason to suspect a leak is a CEL and corresponding trouble code.

    Little green cap?

The green cap covers the port used to check the fuel tank and evaporative emission system for leaks. Keep it on.

Lit Cruise Buttons & Mazda vs Ranger?

Both speed control switches should be illuminated but it is not uncommon for the bulb(s) to burn out. Ranger and B-series are brothers under the skin mechanically. Some differences in sheet metal, headlights, taillights, grille and trim. Definitely built on the same assembly line but I couldn't...

    Black carpet?

Level II Rangers had factory black carpet for a several years but it would be expensive and the Ford part numbers are probably already obsolete. As stated above, check with StockInteriors or you could try www.varkmotors.com . Both sell black carpets and there are other options for backing...

Wipers and washer fluid on with headlights

Some of the 2004+ have problems with a small amount of water getting into the SJB and causing any number of weird issues. This could include individual or combination problems involving lights, wiper/washer, windows, locks, radio or anything else timed or powered through the SJB. The symptoms...

    rear drums

2001 and newer Rangers have an added feature called Electronic Brake Force Distribution. With EBFD, the 4WABS Module reads the ABS sensors and continuously computes the ratio of RPM between front and rear wheel pairs. If required during braking, EBFD modulates rear brake pressure to force the...

    4L SOHC jackshaft question

The 4.0 SOHC doesn't use a single camshaft; it has two overhead camshafts, one for each cylinder bank. This engine evolved from an earlier 4.0 OHV design that had the single camshaft in the vee above the crank. To make the conversion, a plain shaft (the jackshaft) was substituted for the...

    EGR problems

The majority of EGR codes on later model Rangers like yours are due to a failure of the Differential Pressure Feedback EGR (DPFE) sensor. Other common problems could be leaks in the hoses to that sensor or a hole in the steel EGR tube that goes from the exhaust manifold to the EGR valve.

    98 ranger 5.0 swap

The 97 Ex A/C wiring and control logic is upside down and backwards compared to that of the 98 Ranger. That might be causing or contributing to your problems.
