Hello All, I own a 96 Ford ranger xl 2wd 2.3l, I am having transmission problems. R&R trans (4r44e) will not go into gear. Any thoughts? I appreciate any suggestions or recommendations. Thanks

Trans issues 96 ford ranger It will not shift into gear, you can move the gear selector. The truck will hold in park. the neutral safety switch works (starts in park or neutral) This is a used trans with 123k miles. The original trans was shot.
Just as an additional fyi, the truck was road tested after trans installation and went into gear fine, upshifted and downshifted fine on road test. Fluid level good.. The shifter was readjusted to make sure it was set properly by the manual. There seems to be no eng or oil light on dash and the speedometer is sitting at 20mph. I hope that answers some questions. Thanks again...
I think that tranny has 4 solenoids on the valve body kinda sounds like a valve body problem or wire harness came loose, can you check for any codes it might have thrown? I am not sure if a 96 has electronic speedo like a 2001 but might be a pinched wire ,fuse issue
