Hello, i have a 1998 ranger 2wd with a 3.0 Lately i have been hearing a constant chirping under the hood. it sounds almost like a belt slipping but i cannot see that happening when i look and the noise rises and falls with the RPM's It does sound like it is coming from the belt when i pop the hood but what could be causing this?? i am starting to get worried as this is the first time i have EVER had to worry about this truck. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Have you checked out your pulley's. If i were to guess i'd say its your alternator pulley.

i had the same problem with mine, the chripping was coming from the tensioner itself not the pully....you have to change out the hole assembly, not just the pully.

Check the camshaft synchronizer at rear of intake, very common for going bad !

Take the serpentine belt off and turn the pulleys by hand and see if any have any sort of play or resistance.

Had the same problem, it was the tensioner.

    This!

I replaced damn near every pulley in my 03' before realizing that this was the problem. If it is the cam synchronizer, fix it NOW. If it breaks apart, you are fuggen screwed! Time for a new 3.0:(

    Regards
