Power Steering: Mercon V same as Mercon LV?

Hi, just had my power steering worked on.

    i have a 2004 Ranger XLT SuperCab, 3.0L engine, 6-cyl, 5-speed Manual, 147,000mi.

Because of a prior mechanics’ confusion about what the power steering fluid should be, I wrote my mechanic a note, indicating to fill the steering with MERCON V (ATF), as specified by Ford. Well, he used MERCON LV instead! (so much for me making that note out and all…) I understand the difference between the two is their viscosity—and that they can’t be mixed together, but will my steering unit be ok w/ the LV? Or must I make him flush and refill with MERCON V? I don’t want to be unnecessarily picky, if there’s no real difference, but I’ve only got a 3-month warranty on this job, and so I don’t want late-arriving problems I then can’t get corrected w/o shelling hundreds more dollars out.

    Anybody know this stuff?

    thanks,

    Chuck in Los Angeles
