00 Ranger Starts than dies. Check Engine Light on

    What to do. On the phone, Mechanic said, it sounds like the key is not being recognized.

    If it is NOT the right key, the engine would not even turn start. There are a couple of things needed to be check, do you have enough fuel to the injector? There is a CAM sensor, that control the spark to the engine and Crank sensor (check for loose wires or most of the time oil leak onto the connector). I am not sure of the 4 cylinder, but the V6 has the CAM sensor on the very back of the motor (where the distributor once was).
