I need to replace a burned-out bulb on my '98 Ranger, but don't really know what the trick is to access the bulb/socket there within the light assembly. It's this one http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/b...psa0a2e81c.jpg there just to the left of the illuminated headlight. It's an amber bulb and when working it illuminates also when the headlights are turned on. Not sure what it's called either, perhaps a "running light"? It's not a turn signal light. Anyway, the bulb in there needs replacing but looking at it all around and behind I really can't tell how to go about getting access to it. Looking all around I don't really see where/how to do it. Any help appreciated. Thanks

I think it's a 3157 or 3457 bulb... basically the same bulbs, just different numbers. You'll have to remove the entire lens ass'y to get the to the bulb socket. Should be a nut or screw on the back side & some push clips that hold it in place.
Looking at the back of the headlight assembly, to remove the headlight I can see at least two posts behind the headlight, each post with a mounting bolt (screw) and a plastic nut with some funny-looking pain-in-the-a** looking metal clips clipped onto the plastic nuts that would need to unclipped in order to unscrew the nut(s). How the heck do these "push clips" come undone? Any further instruction/advice appreciated. Thanks! Plus, if I do manage to get those little sheet metal clips off those cone-shaped plastic nuts, then unscrew the nuts, doesn't all that have to do with adjusting/aiming the headlights? I don't wanna be getting that all out of whack if I can avoid it.
you dont have to remove th whole assembly if you look inbetween the head light and your turn signal you should see 2 phillips screws take them out and give a quick tug and i should pop out... the bulb you need is 194 fir the turn signals you would use the same process....
The "trick" ended up being to simply remove two screws (which are located underneath the lower amber lens) which is actually molded into the same part as the upper clear lens assembly), and then it comes right out and the socket is easily accessible. I was off on the wrong track thinking I had to remove the actual headlight and the weird clips etc.
Did you do the turn signal / marker mod ? There is a how-to, it makes the side marker blinker with and alternately with the blinker. The with and alternately is IF the headlights are on, funny. Looks good when blinking, only thing, sorry buggman, you can not use LED side marker bulbs they have to be incandescent bulbs so the current can flow both ways,
Hey now that would be cool. I found the how-to: http://www.rangerforum.net/f36/how-blinker-mod-discussion-thread-747/ I'll definitely have to take a little time and do that mod. Thanks Scrambler82.
