Hi everyone, new to the forum. My first truck was an '86 Ranger XL Longbed. 4cyl 5 speed. Had a couple other Rangers after that (92, 94, 98), but always loved the 83-88 front end. I just sold my 98 two weeks ago and picked up an '87 standard cab, XLT, 4x4 5spd. Truck has the infamous 2.9 tick, but other than that I'm really pumped about this truck. So glad to be back into a first gen!

Same here started out in a 85 in 85 then a a 2000 now back in a 87 . Found this one with 56k original miles.
My first was an '88 STX, 4X, High Rider. After a year or so of owning and driving the 2.9L, 5 sp, and getting 15 mpg at best I swapped in a '93 5.L, auto, and my mpg went to 19-21,depending on how much I pushed it ! I always thought Ford should have made a 302/5.0L Ranger, turned out to be a great truck. If I could find another '88, in great condition I would trade in the '03Standard Cab EDGE, wait... NOT, the only thing about the '88 that sucked was the room inside of the standard cab and the '03 standard cab has that covered. My only complaint now about Rangers is the new one coming off the line shortly... I do not like the looks of the new Ranger.
