Really? Thanks! I got the truck back in '12 and it had about 148K on it. Seems like I drive it a lot, just not very far. She's a good 'ol engine, just not much for low end torque, so I spent the first year driving it looking like I was 15 years old, because I killed it at EVERY light and stop sign....these days, I only do that about once a week. It's definitely a life saver. I'm waiting till I need to replace my tires to lift the truck. They're wearing very good. I've got 32,000 on them now. Will probably get another 15-20,000 out of them
Not to skew the subject, but back in the 80's, I had a VW Rabbit diesel. Right after I got it, I put a new set of tires on it. Nice set of Michelin's. They were rated for 50K miles, but I was actually able to get over 55K out of them before I put on new tires. Did I absolutely have to at that point? No, not really, but they were getting down there and I was thinking of selling the car, so I figured a new set of tires was a cheap way to make the car a little more appealing. The tires I got on the Ranger now are just cheapie Hankook's, but I've got to have around 30K on them and they've still got a ton of tread left. I expect, depending on how good the tires are that you have on your truck now, you'll get at least another 20k out of them. Dean
Jamey E, I just did some goofy calculations....'cuz I'm goofy that way ... You've put 32K miles on your truck, as of the post I just quoted. @ 300 miles a day, you've been driving it for 106 2/3 days, or slightly over 3.5 months. There's 52 weeks in a year. @ a 5 day week, that's a total of 260 days in one year. In that time, @ 300 miles a day, you'll have driven 78K miles in one year. Added to the mileage the truck had on it when you bought it, you'll be at 169K by then....should be just broken in. ...btw, maintenance tip - it is said that the average American drives between 12K-15K a year. The average between that is 13,500 miles. Back in the days when I turned a wrench, it was suggested you do a basic tune-up (plugs, wires, cap, rotor and points, if you're still running them) once a year. Sticking to that edict, @ 300 miles a day, you should be doing new plugs and wires ever 45 days. Dean
Haha!! I hear ya. I change my plugs & wires every 60,000 miles, but I change my oil once a month. Thanks for the info. Luckily in my profession we don't stay at the same job too long. I'm currently at my 5th job site since I bought the truck. Fortunately some jobs are closer to home than others
Those are good ones, as off-road tires go. See no reason why you shouldn't get 50K miles out of them.
