I order up 4.56 Yukon Gears, Master Rebuild Kits and an OX Locker for the 31 spline rear. Parts should be here end of week or early next. Only things that have come up is that Yukon is out of Gears for the Ranger Front Diff, funny, I hope that’s not a trend of things to come and the Cable length for the manual shift of the OX Locker. Anyone know of anyone that has installed an OX Locker in the rear of a short bed truck, just wondering about what cable length they used. I measured 102”, so the 100” should work but I just like back up. Thanks

You are only about 10 hours away, if I have any extra parts I will give them to you, lol... Complete Off Road is where I got the best support and the best price, they knew what was needed for the Ranger, except for the OX Cable length. With the OX Locker and the biggest parts kits, parts run around the $1800. That can be cut some but I wanted two new rebuilt axle assemblies. Install should be around $1000 but not absolute, hoping a little cheaper but I do not want to get cut throat. Will know in a week or so.
That's not too bad at all in comparison to what I was thinking. I want to add limited slip when I regear but I never really thought about a locker, I don't get to do that much off-roading here in chi town lol. Keep us posted.
Yay! About time! Haven't really heard of anyone dropping an OX into a Ranger. x2 on what camodown said on the G2 gears if the M35 kit isn't available for a while. There's also the in-house brand Complete Off Road offers so that's another option is the Yukon's are an absolute no-go. I've got an Auburn Ected electric shift locker. I've got it routed from the pass side of the pumpkin, up the brake line to the frame, and along the frame rail and into the cab. I can probably get an approx measurement next time I'm with the truck. Keep in mind, mine's an Xcab.
Thanks Shane, I was going to crawl under today and use some string to get a good measurement but got side tracked, decks needed power washing. Tomorrow I am crawling under the truck, then sanding newly mod'd Back Rack, need that back on the truck again. I am in the process of finding a R&P set hoping for Yukon. Ltr
Got the gears and axle bearings for the rear and the rebuild kits but nothing for the front yet. Yukon is supposedly out of the gears but should have something by middle of Oct, wtf, I always time things ssssooooo right ! I can always get the rear started.
HAHA!! Stuff happens and thus is life! Still sucks though! I did mine as a birthday present to myself....two weeks late. Birthday in late October...did 'em mid November. And like you said, you can always get the rear done and over with and run without a front shaft. I prefer this method actually.
LvL II, 8.8 in shop getting rebuild, new gears, axle seals and bearings and the OX. When done it will be swapped in the truck, 28 spline, 4.10 axle is coming out and up for sale. Also, there will be a 31 spline, LvL II Torsen LS and some more 4.10s up for sale too. Can't wait to run in fourth gear on the regular roads and not shift for hill on the hy-way.
Good deal! You'll love the gears. Massive change. But honestly, I can't think of anyone that I know that likes the OX locker. You are constantly adjusting the cable to make the locker operate properly. I hope you don't run into the same problem
I have never seen a review on the cable adjusting, will have to watch out for it. If it gets to be a problem I can always switch to an air or electric operation.
I take back what I said. I did some updated searching, and it seems the company has fixed all their previous problems. Post up some pics when you get it installed. I love me some axle p o r n.
Was thinking of doing a Disc Brake change over but now thinking the drums worked ok up till now so why worry, just do a complete brake job with all new parts.
Was looking for S/S Hard Brake LInes and found something I have never seen before… Cooper/Nickel Hard Brake Lines. They claim easy to bend because of the copper and strong as steel because of the nickel. A little more expensive, anyone try this product yet ?
Got the front gears and the Ox Locker Cable. S/S Brake Lines are hard to find in this area and I did not want to buy on-line. Local Auto Store has some shielded Brake line, suppose to not rust, going with it hoping for the best; but then again the dry weather of the southwest should be easier on the steel. Waiting for the gears… wait I hear a truck… FedEx… yup the gears are here too. Now to call the shop for a time to bring it all together. Can’t wait to feel the better response from the little 3.0L AND not having to shift to get up a hill. Tires and wheels next.
Didn't see this one. I use this stuff weekly. LOVE it! It also doesn't corrode either due to having no steel in it.
It looked good but needed it so got some of the nickel/steel. Hope it doesn’t rust before I leave the Northeast. Will have time/date for installing front gears (and alignment hardware) and LvL II Rear Axle today, hoping for next week to start driving or is that enjoying driving the Ranger again !
Ran into a small problem… the side OEM Shims are too big for the application. I did not want to use a ½” stack of smaller shims so I had the large OEM one turned down some and will fill with the smaller ones. I hope this get done soon… why so long, must be my ADHD woking on the truck too. Just got a call from the mechanic, he has the diff in and the gears set up, WTF… something changed and I need to find out what. On my way to the shop. (soon)
Found some shims that worked. Project almost done. This mechanic knows his stuff and stands behind his work but he is one of the slowest people I know in getting it done, next to me that is. I talked to him this AM, the front diff is going in and should be ready be days end. Anyone have any comments on the break in of the gears, I have hears 15 mins run, 30 minutes cool down, repeat a few times. Run as you would for 500 miles, change the lube. What about the Lube, Dino or Syth Oil ?
