I picked up this 98 Ranger 3.0 Ext Cab, 4x4, auto, for $500.

Previous owner said he had new fuel injectors put in, new spark plugs, new wires, and it still ran like crap. Was told it was a bad cylinder/Piston, or something.

Here's a youtube video if running:

You can hear the clicking noise, and feel it, its like its backfiring thru the intake!!!
The motor does have a slight change when i unplug the MAF sensor, but nothing much.

I have been told to check the timing, the cam synchronize, check for vac hose leaks, check to make sure the plug wires are in the right spot, etc..
I have checked the plug wires, but none of the other stuff yet.
Going to be a spring/summer project. I would like to get this running for a winter beater.

I have my nice sweet lifted 99 Ranger 3.0FFV Ext Cab Auto 4x4, that is my daily driver and weekend toy.

If I can't get this 98 to run, i may just use it for spare parts.
I have already swapped my non-tilt steering column from the 99 for the tilt/cruise one in the 98, as well as all the cruise stuff. It's nice to have tilt and cruise in my 99, lol.

Any ideas, suggestions, for this 98 Project Truck?

You got a good deal. I would run a compression check, you could have a bad valve or two. If compression is good do the check for vacuum leaks.
