Tightening my belt

    So I had a new belt put on my jeep and it has stretched and is squeaking on start up and sometimes at idle. How much should I tighten my belt. How should I know how to stop without a belt tension gauge?

    generally a half inch deflection is good to go

    well i had the pulley replaced also. the belt on these jeeps likes to stretch during the first week or so. i went about a quarter of a turn and it stopped squealing.
