Hey all! As some of you know, I have made an Infiniti Q45 my daily driver due to my Ranger acting up and costing me, a college student, way to much to keep fixing. I bought it used and abused and have nothing but dumped money into it. That is not to say that I dont love my Ranger. Under my care, she has gotten the parts and service that she needs and not just a quick fix. Anywho, I just got the green light to make it a project truck. A couple of things I was wondering: 1) It is currently 2wd. How difficult is it to convert it to a 4wd truck? I plan to put a new engine and tranny in it (someday) but just wondering if it would be worth it. I do live around the snowline and have some sweet trails but if its not worth the conversion, I wont do it. 2) I dont know all of your mods but Im thinkning an inline 6 or a small v8 would be awesome. Anybody done something of the sort? If so, what we looking at in terms of room? 3) I have some pretty decent dings and scrapes in the body. I dont know if it would be easier to order new pannels or have them fixed when I get new paint. Any advice? Any and all advice will be greatly welcomed. I know enough about my truck to keep her running but I have never done something like this. I grew up in a household of only women so any car talk was greatly discouraged so I never got the experience of working on cars. I think it's high time that I change that! I dont know when I am going to start but when I do, trust me, yall will be the first to see the progress!

some pics would be great.. as well as the specs of the truck. you live at the snowline? in stockton.. wut?
I thought I threw a few pictures up here but guess I didnt. Will do very soon. And as for the snowline, I go to school and live in Stockton but reside in Angels Camp and do a lot of skiing at Bear Valley. No snowline in Stockton but we usually get a bit in Angels. and as for specs, its a 96 xlt 2wd, 5speed, single cab, 2.4L 4cyl. Like I said though, I would like to drop a bigger motor in it, either an inline 6 or a small block rousch crate motor I can get for free....
What all does it entail. As I said, I have little experience with this so the more info the better. Is it a transmission/driveshaft problem? If so I got a buddy who has a ranger with no more engine but it was 4wd and I have been pulling parts from that. Would that work?
Converting is not worth it... After you add everything you need you could have bought a 4x4 ... Twice
So then lifting it a bit and putting bigger tires on it would be worth nothing? even with a new motor? It will live its life out as a work truck that might go to a concert or drive in movie or something like that.
I had a thought. Let me know what you guys think. 3-4" lift (I have time to decide how high I really want to go), bf goodrich mud and snow tires, rear lockers, bumper with a winch. That should be good for the snow once I do the motor swap right?
ok so converting this is gonna be a pain, youre way better off selling it and buying a 4x4 with that cash. but if you prerunner it, those beamed 2wds can pull mad travel if set up right. but its spensive..
kind of. A truck that is capable of doing whatever I want to do with it. It would be a learning experience for me and I want something functional, not a bubble car
http://phoenix.craigslist.org/cph/cto/3083373215.html here is a 4x4 for ya replace thge fender and good to go
and...... 6 hours boom your here hahaha I just came back from camp pendelton nice drive lol But I am sure there are some 1500 dolla trucks in cali too., well maybe... before they get into mexico
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA thats frickin hilarious. And I am sure there are but I know what I have here. Plus, its kinda sentimental being my first car and all. I think I am deciding on a pre-runner kind of truck, nothing huge but a truck that will handle itself and last me as long as I want
