I just got a STX and love the seats aside from the fact that they are black and blue, and my truck is yellow. I would like to paint the center portion yellow with fabric paint. Has anyone used this?

I have heard nightmarish stories about that stuff, even the self dye kits. I would steer clear of that stuff. Check with member Drppdyllwrngr, He does awesome upholstry work and can steer you in the right direction for what you want to do Oh...And welcome to the Forum!
Idk about on seats but I painted a console with the vinyl and fabric paint, and the only thing is the paint is wearing off on the top of the armrest.
I've used fabric & vinyl paint on my armrests & they turned out great. Heard that using it on fabric can make it turn stiff & chunky looking... never tried it on fabric myself though.
I used Krylon paint on the door trim, but didn't paint the arm rests. Didn't want to over do it. Thanks for the input. I don't really have the money to pay someone to re-upholster them right now. I think I'll just live with it.
here is what could happen if you tried to "paint" them. going from blue to yellow is a huge color swing. you more than likely would have some weird color. you can get just the blue taken out and replaced with whatever you want. you do not have to have the seats completely recovered. most people do not realize that we can replace just a single panel, or just the inserts.
That doesn't look too pretty for sure. I didn't realize you could upholster parts of the seat without doing the whole thing. Thanks for the info
yep. i replaced 2 center panels in a chevy pickup seat today. here is a set i did for a member on another ranger site. stock is on the right, centers replaced on the left.
Thats awesome man! I wish I lived closer to you, I would be keeping you busy with alot of upholstry mods!
hey surfergirl, i don't know why i didn't think of it earlier. i have a couple yards of yellow suede that i used in my truck. i don't need what's left over. if you are interested, i will sell it.
i paid $9 a yard for it a few years back, bought 10 yards, used maybe 2. i'll roll it out to be sure. but i would take $5 a yard plus shipping. i'm sure i could fit it folded up in a medium flate rate box, maybe a large one.
I would not use fabric paint on "contact points" of the seat as it will eliminate the "breathability" of the fabric. The side panels might be ok though.
