i will say this,i have a 91 4x4 ext cab auto with a 4.0 and it would run circles around my 03 reg cab 3.0 2wd 5 spd! even with the 33s on my 91 now.
I didn't realize the older trucks were so much more powerful. That surprises me. Was it just the way the engine was geared?
4.0 is the way to go, granted they both have their problems, 3.0's have the water pump issues and the 4.0's have the timing chain tensioner issue, but dude, you should have gone with the 4.0 (cologne block) Somone once told me that its basically the same block at the 4.6MOD V8 but i dont know where they got it from because the cylinder angles are totally different....But, 4.0 is the way to go.. For instance, this morning I pulled my friends W200 '78 Club Wagon that was sunk half way up all 4 wheels and the rear brakes were seized to the drum. All 3 parties that were involved were shocked that the '02 XLT Ranger I own, was able to do something their full size Chev's and Dodge's Couldnt do.
