its puddling out from the tailpipe? check your oil to see if its milky too, and see if your coolant level isnt crazy low. my guess is yea bad headgasket. probly shouldnt drive it too much if its that bad
It's spitting from tail pipe, and blowing that white water vapor even after long freeway drive. I was thinking headgasket. Seems to be running fine other than that. Radiator is low but not super low...yet.
Honestly, no... My dad did two on an 87 Mazda and a one on a 92 Dakota himself, and it took a LONG time... But he's only a weekend mechanic and a half-asser sometimes. As long as it'd run....lol I do know it can cost a pretty penny though. Ain't cheap to rip the engine apart.
Any mechanic will make it out to be some scary big job but its really not that bad as long as you have some knowledge of how a motor works. Take off the intake. Remove the intake manifold. And there's your head gasket. It's this big scary piece of paper that everyone spends a thousand dollars on. Just make sure you know how tight to crank the bolts that hold the manifold on. Of you crank them too tight you will warp the heads.
So I filled up the radiator today and while the radiator cap was off I started he truck and let it idle and reved it a couple times, noticed a couple small bubbles pop up but not to noticeable. I drove it around and then on the freeway it didn't overheat or even start to overheat. Got home and did not notice any leaks and no vapor from exhaust. What he Hell is going on with this truck?! One day it leaks the next its no leak. Any ideas? Anyone still thinking head gasket?
keep an eye on the oil for milk and keep at least 1/4 tank of fuel in the tank to keep from getting alot of condensation in there too. But yeah prob still head gasket seeping
I also checked the oil and it looked normal. How milky would it look if there was coolant in it? easily noticeable? I know about the condition but have never seen it.
look for mily muck around the oil cap even, since it seems like a small amount may be hard to see but keep chking the water level in radiator and overflow tank. also if you see moisture out of tailpie like excess smoking
Vanilla Milkshake is what it reminds me of and I replaced the head gasket on our 87 2.3 and it was a peace of cake hardest part was getting the fuel lines disconnected. If you do replace the gasket remember to get new head bolt's as they are torque to yield item's.
You sure its a HG? How big was the puddle? Are you sure its coolant? I know that cars will leak water throught the exhaust which is a normal part of the combustion process. Just an idea.
