Hey everyone i have been looking at getting a decent used truck for a while, but havent wanted to pay much for how much i will use it. I live in missouri and me and my friends and family love to ride our wheelers. So basically i just want a truck to load the atv up or to pull the trailer with a couple wheelers on it and for winter also. I saw the truck on the side of the road and called the guy and might be going to look at it tomorrow. Its a 1988 ford ranger regular cab 4x4. It has the 2.9 v6, Body is in decent shape, guy said he put new clutch in not to long ago, it has duel exhaust and i dont know if it has a lift but it sits pretty high. Has 190,000 miles. The guy said it runs great and drives smooth with no shakes or shimmy. Said it will need new tires because the tires dont match, same size diff. brand, but thats no big deal. He said there is nothing wrong with the truck and he would trust it anytime to drive anywhere. He had it priced at 1,000, but said if i came and looked at it and brought cash he would go 900. I haved been looking at the 88's online and that seems like a decent price?? Also i dont know anything about rangers. What are things to look for when looking at the truck tomorrow? Any big or common problems with that year? Any help would be amazing guys and much appreciated. Thanks in advance for the help.

That seems like a good deal, especially if it's got a brand new clutch in it. Do you have any pictures of it?
If the truck's going to be just a Daily Driver, I say go for it. Ask him if he'd take $800 though. And when you go look at it, check the leaf spring hangers on the rear and check the rest of the frame for rust hole. Double check that the engine isnt leaking antifreeze. They're known for their head problems.
I love the older Rangers and thats a great price for a 4x4! Id check the floorpans and such too but if its gonna be a weekender, they shouldnt be too big of a deal
