ordered a new 2008 ranger FX4 aug.07 and arrived nov.08. I had wanted comand start put on and was told it was dealer installed. when it arrived the dealer said they could not do it because it had standard transmission (had to go aftermarket). Then being a 4x4 i thought it should have mud flaps in front, as the mud and slush would build up on the step bars.-no front mudflaps-more $. after installing front mudflaps I noticed a missing rubber flap on the inside inner fender- drivers side. after checking other Rangers, some older ,I found them missing as well.-(back on for 2009)-no inner fender flap-more $. (ended up making one) also wheel flares on the FX4 model are not painted -they look like add ons-all other cheaper models that have the flares are painted. -just a few things that added up as extra things to chase around for.

all that is just typical to a newer ranger.... I wont get into a fuss over it.... after all a ranger is a workhorse not some $250,000 ferrari that you only drive on the weekends. Last time I saw factory front mud flaps on a ranger were in 2003, if I were you Id b glad those fender flares are plastic because plastic is easy to fix and easy to maintain other than painted. Sounds to me like you dont need this type of ranger, you should have gone with an XLT or a SPORT model. But Id be so happy with an FX4 if I were you it will definitely come in handy if you are not in the city often. But as you can see most of the changes that you want are pretty simple to do, for painted flares look on ebay or look up certifit.com, just look around and find things to help you make your ranger what you want it to be
Welcome Pete. What are you looking for your truck to do? A workhorse, or just a daily driver type truck?
new parts for a new truck after picking up my new 2008 FX4 and driving it a few months and after I had put on about 3000 kms. one day I could not put the truck into gear while motor running.( standard transmission ) I brought truck to dealership where they bled the hydraulic line to the clutch which made a difference. then they said Fords head office said to change out the clutch assemble, which they did.- at 5000 kms. rear brakes started squeeling. they changed out rear brake shoes , machined the drums and cleaned up front rotors and pads. I am now at 16000 kms. and truck seems ok.
I got a 2009 Sport 4X4 and have the rubber shields, skid plates, etc... Strange that some are missing those parts. I also never believe a manual tranny should have and electric start unless you like watching your truck running away on it's own. Oh...I don't have front mud guards though.
trailer hitch I have noticed all the 2009 ranger models has included the trailer hitch to the package.-nice touch.-as bumper hitches should be a thing of the past.
Yes and I needed a truck with a hitch. Basically the truck came with everything I wanted, rubber floor mats, skid plates, AC. Only thing and maybe a good thing is that it's has open/open diff but I wanted to get a locker anyway for it.
rear axle one of the reasons I ordered a 2008 FX4 is because of the limited-slip rear axle-TORSON-4.10:1 for pulling a trailer and traction control. I don`t think it helps for highway mileage though.
mileage now that the weather is above freezing, I am getting 24 m.p.g.........canadian gallon @ 4.56 litre (american gallon is only 3.785 litre)
and did you not inform yourself bevor odering the truck I looked around at dealers close by so I would not have to wait for delivery have 08 sport and did also have no mud flaps in front
command start my aftermarket command start works perfectly. you have to take it out of gear, apply emergency brake, then take your foot off the brake petal, then press button on command start. as you get out of the truck you then press button for the automatic door locks. that shuts off the truck and sets the alarm system. I had the system installed at an electronics store.
I didn't notice that the inside wheel well flap was missing when I bought my 2001 4X4 Edge. Recently when i changed out my oxygen sensors that were overdue is when I noticed this. Only way to get at them was to pull the wheel off and lift the flap, if it has one, to get at them. Ford saved some money or ran out of some parts on the assembly line. Looks like a common problem after reading this post. R
