Hey guys! I am looking at possibly buying new rims for my truck. I a almost dead set on some MT Classic Locks. Theyre beauties! My question is what size should I get? I would love to get 18s but they only go to 17s. And 15s are a LOT cheaper ($50 a rim cheaper). And also tires are cheaper for 15s but I love the look of bigger rims... Such a delima!!!

I would say 15. Most important reason I got them is because it made my tires and wheels cost quite a bit less. Also I was told that if I ever wanted to do any off-roading, that 15's would be the best fit. Even though other sizes would perform as well, 15's are the way to go as far as costs. What type of rubber you gonna be wrapping around these wheels? That would help me determine what I would do as far as looks. Stock Ranger wheels are 16's most of the time and for the size of the truck I feel they are good fit, but like I said. I went with 15's because of the $$
Then it just depends on which A/T's and how much sidewall you want to have of your tire. 15 = more sidewall, 17 = less.
I agree, I am partial to 15's because I can find the bigger tires easier for 15" rims plus a little cheaper due to them being common in my area
I need pics! Can a few of you guys take pics of your rims? Make sure your about 10-15 feet back so I can get a good idea of wha tthey look like. 15s, 16s, and 17s would be nice
I chose the 16" as it is between the 15 and 17 and it looks good, just enough tire and rim showing, plus thats what I have so kinda biased
15" rim for sure. You can get your 'true' size. ie: 31, 32, 33, etc. Not like "almost 31" high and almost 9-3/4" wide"
What size wheel came stock with ur truck because to my knowledge u cannot just simply throw a smaller wheel on. Like my truck came with 16s and if I went with 15s I would need to swap out my drums in the rear and also my rotors to smaller ones. Feel free to correct me if im wrong guys
nah, your wrong. Not all rangers came with 16's. Even if it was an option, the xl models most always come with 15's. And they are not going to make different brake components for specific trucks. 15's will fit on rangers even tho they may have come with 16's And almost always, aftermarket rims will be bigger on the inside diameter.
Honestly depends on your income and tastes. I'd bump to a 17" 'cause they look KILLER on a truck my size. But I couldn't justify the added $800-$1000 for wheels and tires. Especially since I did tires then wheels in stages. And even more so with tire prices rising rapidly in just a years time when I was in the market. IMO, 15's or 17's. 15's are cheap wheels, very very large amount of available tires out there for it, and the tires would be rated for your truck. If you bump to 16 or even a 17, alot of tires that are for a LT, end up being rated alot higher than a Ranger....meaning the tire is designed to be under a 3/4 ton. Meaning it'll ride harsher. And these trucks don't ride worth a damn anyhow. lol. This is especially something to look at when choosing 16's or being forced to choose metric sized tires. Something to consider. Want something bigger, jump to 17's. or 22's. lulz. Left front WAY out-of-round? That's some hardcore weight. I suggest hitting up the tire place for a road force balance. Agreed. I regret not jumping to 17's when I got new rims and tires. But happy I didn't fork out the extra $800 or so in my pocket. Or else I'd still be paying them off. lol. Not entirely true. Some older aluminum wheels do have fitment issues to '03 and up trucks thanks to the newly upsized 12" rotors for that year(on 4x4's). Back in the day, this was a big concern. Not so much now-adays. All steel and I'm confident in saying all newer alloy wheels clear just fine of the calipers, but as always, it's better to be safe than sorry and test fit before having the tires mounted up and installed on the rig. Downsize drums? Blastfamy! 100% drums are no problem. I've got 03+ brakes and Explorer discs out back. My 15x10 Eagle 185's clear perfectly, as did every other set of 15's I've had on the truck. The only issue is if you're running a large tire and it's got an out-of-round issue(egg shaped tire). If your wheel choice doesn't allow for outside lip weights, the stack of stick-on weights might brush against the caliper til it wears a groove in the weight, then it's no problem. But that sort of issue is rare and generally only is attributed to small number of large tires. And mine came with 16's. edit: hattip to pooleo
