02 Ranger with the usual engagement motor on the transfer case. It's working some of the time. Is there such a thing as a manual engagement mod for rangers ? Like the old manual shift lever ? Maybe I’m just dreaming……

WOW, yea, might not be practical. mine is a 5 speed manual if that would better or worse. Just a thought.....
As for the going to manual engagement for the transfer case, there are not really any options for this. The transfer case you have if I'm correct is a Borg Warner 13-54, the only options you have are going to an older ford ranger and picking the t-case out of one that had it, i believe 93-97 had the best ones I may be wrong, or going to an Atlas II twin stick. other then that I don't know of any other options for rangers.
There is a guy on EF that sells a conversion kit, it allows you to retain your E1354 but have a manual in cab lever for it http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=273757 Also If you have an 02 you can get a manual case from an FX4 or one from an older ranger 1990-1997 or 1991-1994 Explorer.
it seems like it would be logical for it to work on an auto putting it in N for MH towing, but have not seen it done.
You could possibly do that, they designed the original manual transfer case for that purpose. Not to forget if you really don't want a manual case you can just take the shift motor off for the time being during travel and manually yourself put the case in neutral.
