    "map light" replacement inquiry

I'd like to replace the "map" light fixture on my '98 Ranger. It's the fixture up on the ceiling in the cab right above the middle of the back window and has a sliding switch. I suppose it could be called the dome light or the cab light but apparently it's referred to as the map light. I'm...

    air pocket?

I recently drained quite a bit out of the cooling system from my '98 2.5L when I disconnected the coolant bypass hose at the engine block which runs up to into intake manifold so I could remove the intake manifold. I captured all the coolant that drained out, maybe a good gallon and a half...

    clean egr valve?

I've got my EGR valve removed from my '98 2.5L because I'm removing the upper intake manifold. I'm not having any issues from it which might indicate it (the EGR valve) needs cleaning, but still as long as I have it off I figure it woudn't hurt to clean it anyway. Apparently it's usually a...

    ball joint play?

On my 98 2WD Ranger I've been noticing some sporadic shuddering type noise seems to come from left front wheel area. It's not particularly loud nor do I notice it vibrating to the steering wheel as I drive. Checking around underneath, everything seems tight and nothing appears obviously bad or...

    gas line? removing upper intake

Update on my inquiry: I asked around a little more and discovered it's a vapor line for the evap system. It isn't used to carry liquid fuel, it transports stored fuel vapors from the charcoal canister to the intake manifold so that fuel that evaporates in the tank can still be used. So...

    gas line? removing upper intake

I'm wanting to remove the upper intake in my 2.5L, but am unsure how to go about removing this particular gas line, or at least the portion of it that goes through the intake, to get it out of the way, as shown here: http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/b...ps43dc3d1b.jpg Here's a shot of the...

    fuel filter tool

lol. Okay, glad to hear the different style works well for you. Just be careful you don't bend it (like you did that chrome one) :D. Oh, no, wait, that's right -- those chrome ones are supposed to be that way! :D

    fuel filter tool

Glad to hear you had success. But what is this $20 multi pack you speak of? In my case I ended up just ended up getting the exact tool again, a replacement for the defective one. Between me and the auto parts clerk guy we made sure the rivet in the replacement tool was centered.

    bulb replacement help please

Hey now that would be cool. I found the how-to: http://www.rangerforum.net/f36/how-blinker-mod-discussion-thread-747/ I'll definitely have to take a little time and do that mod. Thanks Scrambler82.

    bulb replacement help please

The "trick" ended up being to simply remove two screws (which are located underneath the lower amber lens) which is actually molded into the same part as the upper clear lens assembly), and then it comes right out and the socket is easily accessible. I was off on the wrong track thinking I had...

    bulb replacement help please

Looking at the back of the headlight assembly, to remove the headlight I can see at least two posts behind the headlight, each post with a mounting bolt (screw) and a plastic nut with some funny-looking pain-in-the-a** looking metal clips clipped onto the plastic nuts that would need to...

    bulb replacement help please

I need to replace a burned-out bulb on my '98 Ranger, but don't really know what the trick is to access the bulb/socket there within the light assembly. It's this one http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/b...psa0a2e81c.jpg there just to the left of the illuminated headlight. It's an amber bulb...

    fuel filter tool

Update: Success. I exchanged the tool I was using with a different one from the parts store. With the replacement tool I was able to fit in and disconnect the fittings easily. Turns out my problem was the original tool would close off center because the rivet which pivots the two arms of the...

    fuel filter tool

My issue seems to be getting the sleeves of the tool into the fitting in order to release the catch inside. The sleeves on the tool won't fit in together, as I tried to explain. I'll spend a bunch of time time tomorrow going back and forth to auto parts stores checking what special tools they...
