transmission and transfer case fluids

    So I got 8 qts of Mercon V for free from my buddy, and was gonna do my tranny n t-case fluids. I read in my book that my tranny takes regular mercon and the tranny takes some variety of warner fluid, but I heard that mercon is a viable substitute; is this true?
