Just got a 1998 ranger xlt. It's the step side and a manual. Any suggestions on mods? I really want to do the headlight blinker mod. Does any one have a how to for a 98?

    Thanks,
    Cody

There's ALOT you could do. My best suggestion is to flip through the picture threads and see what others have done to get an idea on what you'd like to do. There's many cheap mods and improvements that you could do. I always suggest looking into replacing your headlights and corner lamps to something better.... like these that you can purchase off eBay...

Also, please create a signature telling us what you've got...ie: year, trim level, engine, 4x4 or 2wd, mods, etc...

As for the blinker mod, it's a pretty simple modifcation. Pull out your signal/corner lamp, snip the ground wire for the corner lamp, crimp or solder on an extension and splice it into the turn signal hot of the turn signal. Gives a really cool look. With the running lamps off, the corner lamp will blink with the signals. With the running lamps on, the corner lamp will alternate with the signals.

Here's a video I did when I was doing the mod for a friend of mine (and installing my retired mirrors)

And also a better video showing all it's modes but on my Gen5 '01+...

Welcome to the site and the world of Rangers! Please don't hesitate to ask questions and post up your mod progress!! But don't forget the search feature. You should post pics to this thread!!! It'll give us a good idea on giving you ideas and where to go with the truck.

Probably the easiest & cheapest mod is the throttle cable "ziptie mod". This pulls all the slack out of your throttle cable giving you better throttle response, and depending on how much slack you have, more pedal movement allowing you to open the throttle more.

The blinker mod looks good with the side markers flashing.
Not sure if this how to is for a 98 but it worked on my 03; just use the schematic as a guide and pick your wire colors.
Both sides have two wires, both sides will have one of them the same color, that is the one you want. Luck

    Here is the How-To: http://www.ranger-forums.com/interior-exterior-electrical-123/how-blinker-mod-36067/

This one is from the other forum but it still works on this site.

Here is the Stern Mod Page: http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/markerflash/markerflash.html

You can do the Mirror ad on mod, which looks good too or change the mirror glass to one with a directional arrow and heated glass if needed.
There is LEDs by Buggman that will add a new look to the interior and add more light.
What about an Over Head Console, (OHC), these are a little more difficult to put in but will add a new look to the interior too.

Read the How-To’s on the other site too and double check the Daniel Stern Site for more lighting mods.

What else do you have in mind, there are a lot of things to do, just need the time and money to do them; the only question becomes where do you want to stop.
