    Really strange noise!

Since asking about that I had the r brake hose fail. While I was under there new pads, new bearings, totally cleaned and put in fresh grease, high quality grease on the slides, disc brake quiet on the backs of pads. So now I get a growling noise whenever I stop as if the brakes are worn out! Bad...

    1996 Ford Ranger xlt

I like an ol fuel pressure gauge attached to the fuel rail to tell ya exactly what your pressure is! ZappyBear is on to something! My almost son inlaw had an escort that just cranked and cranked but would not fire up, I looked at it, listened to the injectors (nothing) checked the coil (no fire)...

    97 ranger 3.0 won’t star

    4.0L timing chain question

Depends on which 4.0l you're looking at. On the older OHV engines you've only got the one chain, yea it's a pain in the as* but it's manageable. On the SOHC engines you've got THREE chains, one from the crank to an intermediate shaft, then one up from the Int Shaft to the cam on the left...

    1999 4.0 stutters

A broken plug. Bet that wasn't easy to find! I had a plug which had the porcelain cracked, it was in a 69 Ford Galaxy with a 302. Had to deal with the periodic misfire til it built up a carbon trace!

Is it firing? Do you have sufficient fuel pressure?

    1999 4.0 stutters

Any Codes? Usually if your coil pack goes it's usually on the #4 or even the #3 plug towers. On you tube, ''chris fix'' shows how to check a coil pack, without getting zapped yourself, it does work!

    Really strange noise!

You thinkin it may be the 'pins' making the noise? Could very well be! I've got the 'splash shields' on order, to put those on I've gotta take the wheel down to the steering knuckle. Those 'pins' only have to move maybe 1000th, but that's enough to make a noise!

Odd crank but no start issue, appeared from nowhere

Need to dbl check the specs for your truck. But I believe the fuel pressure should be up around 45. Need an assistant to crank the engine. Take a stethoscope or listen through a long screwdriver, are the injectors firing? Pull a plug wire (pref #4) off the coil, hold it very close to the coil...

Sorry about that. I know payin Uncle Sam sucks anyway, but to have to sell your truck makes it suck that much worse!

    Really strange noise!

Started a couple weeks ago, now every time I'm hittin the brakes I feel and hear 1 'Click' coming from the driver's front. Had it in the air today, and every thing looks good (ball joints, tie rod ends, shock mounts, stab links, brake pads are 65% there still, rotors are smooooth, even the fins...

Idk what the sticker with numbers on it is on the valve cover

Write down the VIN #, search for fordparts website use the VIN# to get the engine size. In my 94 Ranger the eighth digit is 'X' signifying the engine is a 4.0

    hello! new to rangers

Don't know what kind of sound system you prefer, I just installed a Kenwood KMM-BT222U stereo with four Pyle PL683BL. The original 25watt speaker cones fell out in my hands! My 94 XLT took 6x8 speakers all the way around, these fit like oem! The stereo is single din, put the install sleeve in...

I'm equally technologically stupit! Thought these puter things were just a fad! Ya got a cell phone? Take a pic of your truck, send it to your email, download it to your computer, click your 'user name' click on 'avatar' and you can download a picture there. I know it's alot, but it works for me!

    Howdy

I may be new to Rangers but I've been turning wrenches for a few years now, 37. Never took any schoolin, learned it over time. My lil 94 XLT ext cab is all I need, got my toolbox in the back, retired as a maintenance manager but not as a friend!

    Idle probs

Check your ETC. I wonder if it's 'shorting' showing a really (-10F) cold engine, then it improves when it gets a bit warmer. Is that truck equipped with an EGR system? My daughter's Taurus would rev up n down until it warmed up a bit, vac leak in the EGR system.

    4 PRONG RECTANGULAR PLUG

Wouldn't surprise me! It's possible they ran all the wiring for other options and when 'fomoco' dropped in that tranny they just used the plug that was needed!
