2002 Ford Ranger Supercab XLT 4x4, 4.0 V6 For a while, I've had a light "ticking" sound from the left front when I turn the wheel tightly to the left. Recently, this has become a loud knocking sound. CV replacement, yes? Other thoughts?

CV axles are getting pretty inexpensive to purchase, I would just replace both side. Just as a regular maintenance parts, I think that model are live axles.
Replacing the entire axle would be easier than replacing just the boot. When I worked at the muffler shop we found that replacing a drive axle, rather than pulling the joint and replacing just the boot, was a lot quicker and less stressful operation to endeavour.
$5? Thats a deal, Dean. I got a pair for my Tacoma from Detriot Axle for $69 plus free shipping. Not sure how much the Ranger go for, don't need it yet.
